FVD Tune (dyno results + driving impressions)
UPDATE:
So I inquired about a Racelogic Vbox and the team at Undercover Performance had one and were more than happy to let me use it for a few timed runs.
Conditions were (1) all runs were from standing start (no 1 ft roll-outs), (2) slight upward sloping section of local thruway (3) 72 degrees (4) two adult passengers (Max from Undercover couldn't pass up a couple of speed runs in a Turbo S
) and (5) Launch Control, PSM off and AC off!)
Best Results
0 - 60mph: 2.7 secs
0 - 100mph: 7.2 secs
Interestingly, we did 5 consecutive runs and the times got slightly slower after the 3rd run (which I took a picture of at 2.8 secs), by the fifth run we were at 2.9 secs! Is this the effect of heat on the inter-coolers?
All in all, an afternoon well spent! I daresay the car may have a 2.5/2.6 secs 0 - 60mph in her if I applied the 1ft roll-out, with no passenger on a true flat road (tires are Michelin PSS)! The crew at Undercover were impressed with the times for a car with only an IPD plenum, exhaust and tune! This was my first time using Launch Control and a vbox!
3rd run (wish I had captured the first two, we were still figuring out how to work the Vbox)

Until now!! I wouldn't put that kind of info online...

Thanks Nick, FVD absolutely rocks! The guys at Undercover suggested I take a crack at 1/4 mile dragstrip and record my times there...on public roads, you run out of real estate very quickly. I'll take them up on it and update...
Good point, I edited out the location reference (I hadn't thought of that)! I was simply trying to provide as much info as possible if anyone wanted to replicate the run! Thanks, excellent point!

Much like Porsche A.G. itself, I figured I couldn't go wrong with a company who applies their real-life R&D racing experience to Porsche street cars! These guys know Porsches, just read-up on GTRNICK's build to get an idea.
(ii) FVD’s ECU tune completely reprograms the ECU with the tuned file and is customized (for your car’s current mods) based on your original uploaded stock ECU file! FVD’s software is also adaptive, meaning it adjusts to future hardware changes (mods) much in the same way the stock ECU does to continuously deliver optimal performance. I’m not sure any other tuners can make that claim, as most other tuners simply tweak the stock ECU file (not a full reprogram). I’m not sure what COBB’s does.
(iii) FVD’s ECU tune is also completely reversible and, they claim, undetectable by dealers when the stock file is re-uploaded. Dunkleblau S explained it best when he said “…FVD claims to prevent a flash counter in EEPROM from counting, and therefore has the best chance to HIDE said flash.”. At some point in my p-car ownership experience, I’m sure I will have cause to test this. When I do, I will update 6Speeders
(iv) Last but most importantly, FVD retains Porsche’s factory safety features within the ECU when they reprogram the ECU with the tuned file. In my research, I did not come across an owner whose engine suffered major damage from a simple +70HP – 100HP tune (increased drivetrain wear, on the other hand, yes absolutely) but FVD's ability to retain the ECU safety features gave me some peace of mind…
Delivery methods are similar, both have quick, easy-to-use DIY uploaders. However I give COBB an edge as their Accessport V3 tool has much more data-logging features and is useful for logging other metrics.
In a sense I’m lucky, as when I had to make my decision, COBB didn’t even have a product for the 997.2 turbo. Nothing against COBB but I believe this is COBB's first attempt at the 997.2 turbo platform. I'm not saying that’s bad, in and of itself, afterall everyone had to start somewhere... If I were tuning a Subaru or Supra COBB would be right up there!
Great numbers! The vBox is an awesome tool glad you got one.
Your 0-60 is phenomenal given the conditions...so please try it again without a passenger and with the 1-foot rollout method enabled for comparison purposes. I'd love to see you get 2.5 or under. That would be Veyron territory. Nothing else could come close on street tires and a few bolt ons.

Those are just some of the reason when they run a sale like Valentine's day a few months back I will be buying the FVD tune.
akunob, Sorry for the delay in being able to add a few comments but I wanted to clarify a few things for you. Give me a call when you have a moment, we have a few more tricks for the Turbo S to add more torque. We have 2 software files available. A level 1 and a level 2 so to speak. They both produce the same horsepower but the level 2 produces more torque. The level 2 is a little more $$ but it should be more rewarding as far as the Vbox data is concerned

I will most definitely try a proper 0-60 with the 1-foot rollout and post results.
You can't go wrong with FVD!

How about a Fathers day sale on the tune like you did for Valentines day.
