Aventador Encounter!

This Thursday at our local car "gathering", there was a lot nice machinery out including some exotics.

When I rolled up I was greeted by a gorgeous LP640 that just so happened to be an acquaintance of mine! The owner (he owns a pre-owned dealership that sell some nice machinery) asked me if I wanted a ride in it and well....YOU ALREAY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION!

WOW!! What a machine and experience...................!! I could talk about that machine for this whole thread, but digress for brevity sake! After that drive I asked him if we can go for a pull against my 997T. He wanted to, but we agreed to do it some other time in Mexico.

As my friends Lp640 was leaving, a whole crowd was following something in. It was what fate would have it a machine that I would get to know a little bit more then I thought by the end of the night.....a Aventador Roadster!! I myself went and got a couple of pics of it and about 45min later headed out home.

As I was leaving ready to head home (west), I saw in front of me turning East a C5 Vette that had something written on his plates, but all I can make out is the word turbo on it. I had a last second change of heart and altered my direction to match this new found adrenaline impulses I got and joined him turning East.

It was as I was turning that I noticed what was behind me! It was the same Aventador Roadster!

Well I had a hard decision to make as to who would actually bite to have some fun on the streets. Well everything in me from past experiences says anyone who turboed anything is most likely going to run, but the other side of me was saying if the Aventador does play, it is not everyday that I would have this chance, even though the possibilities are slim. Worst case scenario, I have the privilege of watching the most exotic looking car on the planet in motion.

Who would of know that my later choice would of been one of the most exciting time on the streets that I have had in a long time!!

We were at a stop light together and I complimented him on his machine, to which he acknowledged with a thank you.

Well I paced him from about 5-6 cars behind to not tip him off that I was stalking him and studying its kind. It only took a little time to realize that he was a runner as he hammered it a couple of times, but as the night panned out I had no idea that he was a real car guy and not some rich jerk that bought it only for a trophy!

As he hammered it I would floor it to feel if I can pace him or not and to my surprise I would maintain the distance just giving up his initial hit and momentum. For all I knew at this time he could of been just playing around, but in moments time I would find our for real!

He was turning through a single lane sweeper and a regular mode of transportation vehicle forced him to slow down to what seems like a standstill (aka the speed limit). By this time I was right behind him and in gear and ready for when we come out that he will hammer it! Well he did come out wide, but kept the same slow pace as to let me come right behind him and then he opened up a symphony of sound that ALMOST made me forget that I was here for war, not to listen to Mozart's best!!

With his initial hit and momentum he started to pull away from me middle of 2nd gear, but by the time I hit top of 2nd his momentum slowed down just a bit. I grabbed 3rd gear and his pulled stopped, hit 4th and TO MY SUPPRISE I was having to lift throttle to prevent me from switching his radio stations! I just thought to myself maybe he didn't have on race/corso mode etc and was just glad that I had the opportunity to run him.

Well I think I awoke a dragon as to the best of my knowledge he now knew I was not a VW Bug!! I came up to him and gave him the thumbs up and I fell back to honor such a machine. Well to my surprise as I slowed down from him 3-4 cars back, he kept slowing down. I didn't get what he was trying to do until I kept on slowing down to keep 3-4 cars behind him until I was going 20Km/h! I quickly throttled it to come beside him (as by now there were no other cars in front of us) and he asked if I wanted to go and when I agreed he just stopped in the middle of the road!! I had to pinch myself to realize what was happening!! Well I asked to go from a 1st gear roll (as my clutch was slipping bad the day before when I had MS109 tune in, but I was on the 94 pump gas tune that night), he obliged. I honked once and he took off and I didn't chase him. When I met back up, I told him of the THIRD honk and he said ok, but he mentioned that there is traffic now ahead.

I thought that was it for the night and was still very contended.....UNTIL HE PULLED OFF OF THE MAIN STREET onto a side street and just stopped in the middle of the road!! I followed and he asked me if we can go from a dig from here. As I was convincing him to go from a 1st gear roll again he was looking down on his console what seamed to be pressing buttons (barely listening to me), I guess getting all his setting to KILL mode. I convinced him again to do a 1st gear pull. He agreed again and just shouted look for any police. He started pacing me and held me at 2200-2400rpms, I was like no don't do this I need more RPM against his big N/A motor, but again running a machine like this I couldn't care of the outcome much! I was about 1ft ahead when we started and on three he caught that 1ft. I grabbed second gear so quickly I don't remember doing it, I pulled his front bumper to my door. He then started gaining about 2ft and then I shifted to 3rd and to my surprise by the end of the run his front bumper was 1-2 ft behind my rear bumper and I was continue to slowly pull him!! He was definitely faster then our 1st run, so I don't know if any of those buttons helped him or he was just more serious this time around. ***I NEED A GO PRO ASAP!!**

He gave me the thumbs up and headed his way, as I did as well, but on cloud 9! I don't think the night could of gotten any better for a car guy!

Man, how I love the streets and love my machine!! I am so blown away by the power band of these machines and with such little mods where it is at!! My real power mods have not even arrived in the mail yet and this machine is such a deadly street weapon the way it is.

I am hoping to meet up with the LP640 soon and I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks

Bobby Ali

Very nice story!

I would think a stock 997tt would take down a stock lp640?

I love both cars, but really love my 997.1tt. Don't get me wrong I would love a Lambo in my garage as well as my porsche! I think most of us had posters of Lambos and Ferraris on our bedroom walls as kids.

Things are happening in my life and if they go well I may have a Lambo and Ferrari sitting in my garage.

Time will tell!

I think I saw an Aventador in Richmond Hill a couple of weeks ago - stunning. Saw a fancy looking version of the 458 on the highway, pulled over by policecar of course.

One of the guys at my workplace just bought the Benz AMG E63 S version sedan. I was reading about it and my jaw dropped when I read how much hp/tq this beast has and the performance numbers too. On my way home the other day I see a station wagon pull onto the highway and thanks to my Benz research the other day I recognized it as the E63 wagon with the same 580ish hp engine. We toyed a little and I'd have to say I was glad I had known what the car was so that I didn't leave mine in 6th gear with sport mode off, lol.

Great story telling. One of the very few street racing stories that I actually enjoyed reading.

Yes I too would have loved to see this beast in person, let alone racing and beating it. Thanks for sharing.

I am just so impressed that with such little mods this car is such serious street weapon! I would not believe I beat it fairly either after only the 1st run which I had to lift (ie he didn't have it in Corso mode or he was manually shifting early), but after He lined up with me the way he did I felt a little more confident.

Also Two days after I ran a friends 620RWHP GT500 which is about what the Lambo puts down pending on the dyno (I have seen from 564-634Whp for the Lambo) and the Gt500 also weights the same around 3900lbs as the Limbo, but I pulled the GT500 harder then the Lambo. Also compared to my 997, the Lambo had another passenger adding another 180lbs avg. I am at 3626lbs (with me in it) vs 4265lbs (avg) two passenger for the Lambo)

-997 Turbo Sport Chrono
-Protomotive 1.2-1.3BAR tune pump gas (I also have MS109 TUNE THAT IS OVER 1SEC QUICKER 60-130 THEN MY PUMP TUNE, BUT DO NOT PLAN ON USING MS109 AGAIN $$/unless pushed)
-Fabspeed Straight pipes with 200cell HJS cats
-GT3 82mm Throttle Body
-IPD 82mm Plenum
-Evoms underdrive pulley
-BMC Air Filter
-Porsche SSK
-WEVO motor mounts
-RSS front control arms
-H&R lowering springs
-Gt2 Rear way bar
-RSS SS brake line
-Pagid RS-19 and Pagid RS-29 pads

I only did the Proto tune (had an Upsolute tune when I purchased it) and the straight pipes (have my 3" X Speedtech catless & mufflerless coming by the end of the month) since I got it! The rest of the mods the previous owner did it.

Todd gave me his stock VTG Proto tune as a favor until his real mods come in.....so that is why I am so impressed with the car, as it is not even with my set up that I have coming and is running the way it is for a basically stock temporary set up. Only had the car a month and I ordered my mods that are coming the day I put the deposit on it and I am STILL waiting for it ....feels like an eternity!!!

Being the car is doing so well I can only wonder what the stock VTG 's are capable of with full supporting mods. ie I have not sent one log to Todd (as he did me a favor) to custom tune back and forth, intercoolers (will drop at least .5-1 sec 60-130), water meth 60-80 hp more etc ....ALL with not doing any major mods like upgraded VTG's, E85 or even gt turbos.

Stay tuned!! (pun intended)

No a stock 997 turbo would get rocked by a LP640, now a Murcielago would be a good run with the slight nod going to the Murc.
