I drive my car for the total experience and would not change my set up which is a Speedtech 3" catless Race set up with dual 3" tips. I love it and for what I do with my car ie. take it out for pulls and just the enjoyment of the ride I will not touch a thing! If it was more of a daily I would do Speedtechs a full 3" catless mufflerless set up (both the cat and/or muffler options increase the likely hood of drone) with the stock necked down tip to cut the volume and the very small drone. The reason for this would be if I wanted to mod to some more power 550+AWHP, being Speedtechs systems are modular, you can just get the full dual 3" tips later for a full 3" power house.
If it is 100% daily then I would do his 2.5" set up with cats, but no mufflers.
The great thing about John's systems is that he can make it just right for you with swapping different parts of his system.
Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you for the reply - definitely helpful. My car will only go out generally on weekends and for pleasure, so I don't have an issue with it being loud really, mainly just want to avoid drone.
Is there a substantial difference in loudness/drone between the 3" and 2.5" systems? If the mufflers/cats only contribute to the drone, perhaps a 2.5" system with no cats/mufflers is the way to go...

Hi Kyle,
The 2.5 X-Pipe is the best no drone, yet exotic and loud option. It's very comfortable at all RPM's and screams like an Italian exotic at WOT! Best of both worlds.
I had to drive my car to Sport Car Boutique to get my rear RSS dog bones, toe links and locking plates installed. In the process of driving there my daughter drove my Touareg as my so Videoed my 911 driving... SO I FINALLY have some sounds clips of outside as I am driving REGULARLY through the years to hear what others hear when cruising. I think I only punch it once!
Kyle,
If that is the way you are driving your car, I would dare say the system I have is perfect for you!! It is a event everytime I drive the car, it is loud with a smooth exotic tone and a wail of a shriek up top with min drone. If you don't want Zero drone and more tame, as John suggested the 2.5 might be perfect for you!

John is there any videos of the 2.5" setup with/without cats?
I only have a 2.5 catted X-Pipe video from a 996TT. It's the exact same X-Pipe we use on the 997TT and would sound very close on the 997TT with minor differences for the different turbos, etc. The video will provide a very accurate idea of how it would sound on your car. Since I do not have a 2.5 video, I would be willing to work on a discount with you or anyone else interested, in exchange for supplying a video of our 997TT 2.5 X-Pipe.
In the video below, you can hear how it is toned down from the 3.0, yet still exhibits a nice exotic tune. I would term it moderately aggressive at light and part throttle with a fantastic wailing top end sound.
We are in currently fabricating a couple of 997TT 2.5 and 3.0 X-Pipe systems. Contact us if interested in one of these systems that are in production right now...6speed member discount available, as well.
Another new, very happy SpeedTech customer, who switched from a very popular 997TT exhaust just sent us an email - he installed the SpeedTech 3.0 X-Pipe w/ HJS cats and twin tips a week ago and had this to report back:
Hey John! I plan to sing the praises of the Speedtech exhaust as soon as I have a chance! My gf will be recording a good video of it from outside with her camera as well. Not worried about selling the xxx at all.
I can't say enough how happy I am with the x-pipe. The past two days I've said to my gf countless times how much better sounding this exhaust is compared to the xxx. So happy with it.
Just completed and ready for packaging - This 2.5" X-Pipe was speced with HJS substrates and our 3" dual tips for a moderately aggressive sound level. Our 2.5 X-Pipe is gaining in popularity, as many customers desire an aggressive sound, yet not too loud and the 2.5 fills that spot very well.
