Race Harness & Roll Cage help
Race Harness & Roll Cage help
Hello,
So I've been doing some research on Race Harness / Seat Belts for my 997.2 Turbo S, but I'm a little confused.
Do I NEED a Roll Cage of some sort in order to install the Race Harness? Is there ANY way I can do it without a Roll Cage?
And if not, is there a Simple roll cage / roll bar / anything that can make the installation simple for the Harness and not need a roll cage?
Thank you.

Please don't install a racing harness in a car that doesn't have proper racing seats with eyeholes for the harness as it can result in serious injury in a crash....once you have proper seat/harness you must understand and accept that you will be less safe without some kind of roll protection should the car roll for any reason...the seat and harness will hold you upright and when the roof crushes it will be on your noggin....in my opinion it is an all or nothing proposition but I see plenty of drivers in DE events with harness bars and harnesses without proper seats or roll protection
My car has the Carbon GT2 Race seats from Factory, but I don't know if a roll cage is required.
If it is, what are the best or simplest options I could go for? Maybe something that's just for the belts?

You don't need a roll cage unless you are going to make it track dedicated...a simple roll bar like the Techquipment or Das will protect you in a rollover and not present a hazard when driving on the street without a helmet....if you are willing to accept the risk you can just use a harness bar and hope you never roll
First thing to ask is what are your goals with the car? A lot of tracking? just a few DE's a year? As Chuck stated safety equipment is best thought of as a complete safety SYSTEM. Otherwise it can do more harm than good.
I'll explain a little more;
We do occasional tracking on the car, but we do a lot of canyon road driving. The reason behind wanting the Race seat belts is because even with the Race seats, the stock Seat Belts just don't feel very secure during these drives. You move quite a lot to the front, etc.
I don't want to install a Roll Cage if I can avoid it. Anything that would work in order for me to install the race seat belts would be good. I know I need the bar that goes under the seat for the front, but I'm lost on the shoulder parts of the race seat belts.
Any links to what sort of bar I can use to attach the belts to?

Thank you, I'll keep your offer in mind, but I would like to know before I make a decision, if there's any other simpler way than a roll bar / roll cage to attach the belts.
Thanks!
Thanks!
the 4 point rollbar most are talking about use the front and rear seat belt mounting holes. add harnesses with proper seating and your moving in the right direction. without a helmet your risking injury if you roll and hit the bar with your head. if you use a helmet then hans or halo seats are wanted as the helmet can whip your head but the harness holds your body in check
^^ Also true. You really need to think this through. As i said, all safety gear is meant to work as a system. A full cage would be insane in a street car - unless you plan on wearing your helmet driving on the street. A harness bar could work, but as mentioned above, harnesses without a HANS now opens up a whole new can of worms.
Not to be an ***, but are you really pushing the car so hard on the street that you need harnesses to hold you in the seat? If so, well... With safety gear, there's usually no middle ground. If you can't do the whole thing, you're often better off with the stock setup. going halfway can be more dangerous than leaving it alone.
