Winter Project? Track Ready!
Winter Project? Track Ready!
Hey all,
I'm looking to strengthen my track stance this winter. I have the following installed.
-EVT580 Tune
-ERP triple carbon clutch
-997 CUP arms in the front (MonoBall)
-GT3 front sways
-GT2 rear sways
-H&R springs
-EP2 exhaust
-High Performance Serpentine belt.
-Track setup would involve, stock rims with Super sports, with rear spacer at 18mm.
Looking to install the following,
+ Dass or Techniquipment Bar.
+ Race Seats (So sore after PCA attendance!)
+ 5 point harnesses
+ Rear Cup control arms ( My rear tires are wearing alot at -3.0 camber) Maybe I just need a realignment now that the new springs have settled.) My thought is if the springs settle, the camber increases, Right? Why the extra wear?
+ IPD plenum
+ 997.2 GT2 RS Intercoolers
+ OZ ultraleggeras 18 "
+ Tires (similar to NT01)
+- thinking of swapping out my rear deck. I don't want to wait for the hydraulic failure.
+ Trailer to track, Track is 60+miles away. ( I also own a cayenne with a 7,770lb Tow limit.)
+or -I am currently experiencing a pulsing in 5th and 6th gear under high torque situations. I am thinking what "Steve K Ny" did here https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...all-997tt.html
+1 Your Thoughts!
I am looking for endurance and track reliability.
This forum is great! Thanks in Advanced!

Ryan, Looks like you're going to be busy. Here's my $0.02 worth;
You definitely want 6 point harnesses to keep the family jewels intact in the event of an impact. The 5 point variety will leave you singing soprano should you ever really test them.
3' negative camber will eat the insides of your tires no matter what. That's what I used to run but got tired of cording them with all the street driving I do. I went to -2.5' and traded off some performance for durability. Pick your poison.
Really give some consideration to installing a rear roll bar/cage in lieu of a harness bar. You are fast and aggressive enough that when you eventually have an off you want to make sure the odds of walking away are stacked in your favor should you roll. And, as we all know, stuff can and does happen! A harness bar does nothing to protect your head.
I would also give consideration to installing coilovers - the main advantage being you can fine tune the height of your car and, more importantly for the track, get it properly balanced. Think of your car like a 4-legged stool. If it is properly balanced and all 4 legs support the stool equally it's solid to sit upon. If one of the legs is an inch shorter than the rest, the stool teeters and you'll never be comfortable or stable. At your level of performance, you need this or you're missing a big part of a correct setup!
Good luck, have a great winter and I'll look forward to seeing you in the spring!

Thanks Steamboat,
Safety items are first on the list.
Surprisingly enough, my Negative 3' cambers is wearing on the outside of the tires and not on the inner part. I figure that this may be my camber or possible weak sidewall on my street tires.
Suspension will be added once I figure out which system to go with.
BTW, Nice photo on the cover of the HighGear Mag.!

+ a Gazillion on 6 pt.! Trailex open trailer is awesome. just sold mine to buy a trailex enclosed (Touareg TDI tow vehicle).
I would not spend additional money on go fast parts. i'd even consider detuning the car back to stock. just no need for it.
