Stroker is infamous around these parts
For a low rev and low compression application like our turbo engine 50mj is enough.

A modern 2.0L Turbo direct injection engine with 10.000revs and around 600ps is using 65-90MJ for example.

i agree but if the oem setup is even 30 mj is it worth another 400$ for 20 mj? as your increasing the boost your typically cranking down the spark gap to avoid blowout. bump the spark to 100 mj and above and you can now open the gap back up for better burn without the fear of blowout.

+1 - I'm very interested in the proefi coils, but my concern is can the oem ecu handle these, and what is the effect of the dwell? Any input??

I can always add dwell tables to our software so Garth or any of our tuners can make adjustments if you are on an AP and stock ecu.

No worries with the pollution.

As for the Pro-EFI coils, they're 'Smart' meaning they have the switching transistor built in. This is great for the 3rd party ECU's,

While the OEM ones are dumb coils... meaning all the ignition transistors are within the ECU itself.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to find a better coil; but one that is as common and as cheap as the bosch that EVOMs picked may be a challenge.

My take on ordering these is that it's always possible to get these coils (Even in a higher vibration motorsport version) and to be honest, if it's a $300 premium over the stock ones... why not...

i guess for me its spark. and will the others have to have adaptor wire harness ? its true the coils i showed are expensive, whats not on these cars! but 50 mj to 105 or even 210 isn't even close. with that much spark you can run hotter plugs and open the gap for even better burn.
now if you got a smoking deal and spent next to nothing on the evoms then i would try them. their coils aren't hardly any more than the proefi coils. (they had a special over xmas that was about 1000$) same as evoms but 4 times the power. another nice thing is the coils are relocated which makes the sark plugs easier to get to.
looking at the link to the coils it seems they are about 67$ each. so thats about 600$ for the machined brackets evoms sells
just to sum it up,
oem coils are about 300$
evoms are 1000$
proof coils are 1000$ on sale
just food for thought

Oh I know, I had to run the largest coil I could find on the BMW I had due to the crap combustion chamber...
With that said, the Pro-EFI ones won't work as they require a +5V logic signal. vs a switched ground like the OEM ones.
http://www.aemelectronics.com/?q=pro...tive-dumb-coil
These would work

I always thought to try those CDI boxes, but have no idea how they'd work with the stock ecu.

Needless to say I think we're outside the scope of the market on that stuff, haha..
With the gas here, Pretty sure I can swap for glow plugs and get the thing to diesel itself down the road.

according to garth at undercover you can run the proefi coils on a stock dme. certainly worth a call to confirm if your still on the fence

in know tim941nyc ran a cdi box with mustang coils on his huge hp (1361 rwhp) turbo. in the end i think he was switching to the proefi coils for more spark

I just ordered 6 x Beru 997-602-104-00-M47 from Pelican for $44/ea. Seems like a pretty reasonable deal.

I would like to run a fancy Bosch coil, but as mentioned above I refuse to pay $600 for a few blocks of CNC aluminum and I'm not going to make them myself. Keep the plug gap tight and the stock ones have been used upwards of 1000whp.

I will talk to Bosch about a Data sheet of our original coils.

Double check if the A1 coil is possible with the original DME i dont think so.

The OEM coils are Beru, are you talking about the Bosch equivalent? I have seen them for sale but not talked to anyone who has used them.

Yes.

I thought there was the same coil from Bosch in the past I have seen some with a Bosch part number.

Not that many people actually manufacture coils, they could easily be the exact same coil with different logos on it.

If I were going to go with a Bosch coil though, I would buy the P100-T. You can get them from Bosch Motorsport but they aren't cheap. 100mJ rating which is substantially higher than the other coils discussed here, and while I haven't measured them it looks like they may fit with a CNC adapter *cough*.

Ack. This information would have been much more useful a couple hours ago.
