Just a quick one for those that have ordered the EVOMs coil packs.
I bought these NIB from a forum member, but want to verify before I get everything ready to install.
See the attached picture; can people verify that these are legit EVOMs coils?:
The coil packs I've received do not include the rubber 'stub' pieces down to the plug, do I re-use the OEM ones? or do I have to order new pieces?
The pieces are pretty straightforward. Some quick comments are that they seem to use a Bosch P50 coil, with a CNC adapter.
One comment I have to make is that they attempt to hide the Part Number by grinding the numbers off and attaching a piece of plastic over the coil. They are legit bosch coils though...
Also, on the 6 coils I have the set pin hole is a m5 thread; 3 have metric threaded set-pins, while the other 3 pins have a standard thread that does not match the hole. But that could just be where they have changed hands a few times.
Anyway, Do I need the stubs? anyone else have these to give opinions of?
looks like one of the coils has a broken or cracked electrical connector already
Haha, yes, the joys of postal shipping.
The electrical connector doesn't bother me, I have access to other Benz branded P50 coils.
I did notice that the evoms picture above seems to include the 'tubes' but I always imagined that as a promo photo, as well as the un-anodized finish.
You'll notice they do not have set-screws either... however they are most definitely required
Thanks for the replies, I purchased these during the active season last year, so now that it's currently winter here, it's time to swap...
The axis are not similar, one is current and in the other diagram it is revolution
but for me it looks quite similar if you take the 12V line as a the base line.
I would say you could use the coil without getting in trouble.
Does someone know the spark energy from there original coil?
David
In a normal tuned road car I would stick to the original type because the A1 coil does need an extra place, cable and connector.
Also the amount of energy of this coil is HUGE.

if you have the ability to adjust for high output coils i haven't seen anything bigger than the proefi coils i posted earlier. 210 mj and the mounting bracketry and additional wiring harness and plug wires are all inc.
The OP's coils look like what we've been building for the past little while. I believe the set screw spec changed at some point, so you might have gotten a crossover between two batches. The factory spark plug boots do get transferred over as mentioned above.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply.
They seem like well thought out units.
Cheers.
Haha, I ran the LS-7 type coils for my bmw build a while back, those were some great coils as well!
Although for this purpose, I doubt I'll be able to use the full capacity of the EVOMs coils even.

Do you know how many mj the oem coils are? Like I said 50 mj isn't much. The lowest proefi coils are 105 and the Lightning are 210. I would think the oem coils to be 30? Mj at least?
