New Battery Question

Looks my my OEM battery is on its way out. Car is a 2010 997.2 Turbo. By searching the forum it looks like the Walmart EverStart MAXX H7 is the popular choice. I do have two questions;

1. Are there any other widely used alternatives that people recommend?

2. I would like to save all of my radio presets, etc. If I plug a trickle charger into the cigarette lighter will this save the presets?

I appreciate your input.

Adam

Here are two alternatives:
Interstate MTP 94R/H7
Bosch AGM 94R/H7 - Pep Boys

You won't lose your radio presets with battery disconnected.

If you do use the trickle charger, be careful with the + cable terminal as it will be live! It's counter-intuitive to have juice in the cable with the battery disconnected, but that's exactly the situation in this case.

I've got the Bosch AGM in two or maybe three of our vehicles and they've worked out great so far.

Costco H7 will be a good value alternative with a better warranty

Gents:

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. I will look into the other battery options as well and be careful when I have the trickle charger installed. Forgot that the + would be hot!

Much appreciated.

***Quick update***

I purchased the Bosch AGM 94R/H7 battery noted above from Pep Boys this afternoon for $168 which included tax. Pep Boys had a "spring sale" that saved me $70 (30%) off their list price! Great deal for a brand name battery and was the same cost as the Walmart alternative. For that price I figured go with the Bosch brand.

Car fired right up, windows work again, all is good. Thanks again for the input!

Good! I have started my car after 2 weeks with this battery with no tender. Values are, low weight, efficient and does offer a slight weight savings at 21lbs in total weight.

There is a slight modification that you will need to complete in order to hold this in place. I can provide the details if needed. JLMK "Just Let Me Know"

The OEM Replacement indicated is a "MOLL Kamina Start" 588 027 064 (some show Bosch S5572B L4-94R as OEM? - 47.8 lbs.). Hard to find the weight specs....They offer everything else. But it weighs nearly 60 lbs! I think it is around 57.75 lbs.

Lots of lighter Aftermarket of much better quality. These OEMs are total crap!

Good call & update! I just made an appointment with my local pep boys for this same Bosch battery. I used a 35% coupon code and it's coming out to be like $160 out the door installed with tax.

I probably could go into the summer until replacing my original one in 997.2T, but at this price - figured might as well knock it out now.
