Hi,

For any of you that have bought the 997.2 intercoolers to upgrade your 997.1, did you have any bent fins on receipt of the intercoolers? I ordered a set from Sonnen Porsche, which I received promptly. However, one of them has some vent fans and the other has dents on one of the cross bars as well as the lip around the edges. I have come from the Japanese turbo world, and I've never received an intercooler that had any bent fins or lips for that matter. Is this normal for these? I'm sure that after a few miles of driving some of the fins will get deformed but these shouldn't arrive like this new.

Hi Franc, Sorry to hear about your trouble with these. I wouldn't be to worried about the damage though. Being bent on the outer frame doesn't matter. I actually cut mine off for my installation.


The dents on the median air flow pass wont hurt its cooling affect but, doesn't look nice when you purchased them new.


Don't install them if you don't feel comfortable with them.


I probably would pressure test them and use them. I may send some photos to the retailer for a slight discount though.

I bought mine from the same place.. One of them had a one or 2 of the dents like you show in the third pic..no other damage.

I'd certainly call them about it.

 

Do you recall how they were package? Mine arrived together in a single box, one of them was wrapped in plastic but the other one wasn't. It is easy to see how the fins would have become damaged during shipping, as they were not protected. Everything I have received from Porsche in the past was usually well packaged. I know that this minimal damage is probably not a big deal, but for around $700 each, I expected more protection during shipping.

 

I'd send them back.

 

They came in separate boxes.. pretty sure it was the factory box as the outside had the part number labels on them. The two separate boxes were taped/strapped together as I recall to create one shipment. There was sufficient internal packing material as I recall, and the 2 "dents" did not occur during shipment I'm pretty certain.

 

I heard back from Sonnen Porsche today. They are going to be sending me some new intercoolers and will have me ship these back to them. Very smooth transaction. A+ folks to work with.
