Middle East Drag Strip Results
Middle East Drag Strip Results
Interesting. I was very excited about potentially switching over to the 991 Turbo S platform as they had turned some incredible times in the Middle East. Obviously this story causes some concerns so I'll hold on and reserve judgment until more facts about Yas Marina and other drag strips are verified.

Hello,
I want to chime in to correct the general statement "middle east results".
This claim from BoostAddict forum excludes Bahrain International Circuit.
Go to 44min 25sec. in the link below.
You will see "Danny Garcia" from NHRA speaking about the track and the records.

BIR is an incredible place (track and drag strip) and I'm glad to hear the timing equipment is to the standards of the NHRA.
It was interesting to see the track prep in the EKanoo video. It is a perfect surface with layers and layer of rubber which is then sprayed with VHT and then lit on fire with a torch! Now I can understand how bolt-on Turbos with street tires can get the front tires off the ground.
I hope you get to enjoy the track yourself!
Cheers.

So...it does not appear that BIC has an NHRA license for its drag strip.

I don't know what you are trying to do with this attitude but i will post an official proof from BIC very soon.
Nope, you're wrong. Just like I pointed out in the other threads you've posted in.

How long does it take to veify if a track is certified/licensed or not...
Nevermind, someone else did it for you (not me, the credit goes to Sticky from BoostAddict).
So there you go. Neither Yas nor BIC are NHRA certified/licensed. There is no independent oversight, no testing, no calibration, no standards. Tough to compare times from there to NHRA tracks in the US IMO. Might as well get some of us to go setup a dragstrip at an airfield and use those times for record attempts. They would be just as valid as those obtained at Yas or BIC.

Hi Joseph
Apologies for the slow response. I've been traveling in China where access to email has been a little limited.
The NHRA Worldwide Program is more like a membership scheme that gives members access to certain benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to - training, specialist suppliers, advice and knowledge, assistance in preparing rules, regulations etc.
Bahrain have been very active in using their membership of the program to bring experienced NHRA personnel to Bahrain to help with training on track preparation, race organization, fire and rescue training etc. As with any membership program it is entirely up to the member how much they use the services available to them.
You have to remember that until 2004, the Middle East had no permanent facilities so motorsport is in its infancy in that part of the world.
I know that you have concerns regarding Yas Marina Circuit and I have passed your contact details to Mr Steven Umfreville, their Commercial Director. He will come back to you if he hasn't already.
The venue and the equipment at Yas are world class and there shouldn't be any reason for discrepancies with their hardware. You need to liaise with them directly on why their timing results may be off.
If you haven't heard back from Yas, please contact Steven directly.
Kind regards
Mark

several of those emails make it pretty clear that they are not NHRA certified tracks, meaning there is no oversight, timing checks etc. they are part of the world wide program which is more about guidance and support for them rather than verification. the time used as an example of a C63 cutting a 1.2 60ft was a pretty solid case made that timing was off.

There is an EXPLICIT copy of an email over at porscheboost.com from NHRA which shows one of the subject ME tracks has not been sanctioned or licensed by NHRA since 2012 as they have not been tested in some time... as I lost my login over there maybe mtslp or other can find the email and thread
Of course, a simple way around the ???? is for someone in one of the "World Record Cars" to post a video with a vbox verify chart showing the breakdown of the runs
