Should I Sell The Turbo?
Should I Sell The Turbo?
Hey guys....
I've been toying with the idea of selling the Turbo.
what am I considering?
1. 997.2 GT3
2. Audi R8 V10
3. GT-R (2013)
4. Another TT (maybe 09 or .2)
5. Something else?
6. Keep my damn car and keep modding it
Here are some of my thoughts....
First off, this will be my daily driver.
Why am I considering selling the TT?
I'm about to hit 47k miles which is close to the 50k mark. For some reason when they these hit 50k it's often a hard sell. So I figure sell it before I hit that mark and get in a lower mileage car.
The GT3's are increasing in value. When I bought my TT, the GT3 was around the same price. Now you can't find a 2007 for less than $90k.
There isn't really too much "tunability" with these. Just an exhaust and suspension bits which takes some of the fun out of it as I enjoy working on my own car.
I threw an R8 in to the mix because they sound glorious (with the right exhaust). I've known a few people that have owned them and have heard nothing but great things about the cars and their reliability. Some say a great car to DD.
I've read that a lot of people flip their GT-R as they're not to thrilled by them. Not sure why that is other than its just kinda "blah" for the money. These appealed to me because of their ability to be modded and make some serious power for little money compared to the TT.
Anyone out here owned a TT and some of these others?
What are you thoughts?

I think you're just bored with your current car and have "found" some reasons to justify getting something different. I've had 2 TT's and had seller's remorse after selling both. Sounds like you've already made your decision. Good luck.
I haven't really made up my mind yet.
I've been considering just wrapping it and seeing if that scratches the itch for a while.
I agree they can be sold at the "right price" but they take a slight dive over 50k.
Why not just keep your incredibly nice car and just enjoy driving it?
I get that the build is half the fun, but it seems like a waste to buy a new car, none of which you seem enthralled by.

I wouldn't get a GTR. The turbo is better. Audi v10 would be the only thing worth it to get on your list. The GT3 had it's run, the move is made, I doubt the regular GT3 will go much higher unless it's super super low miles.
Since I dd my turbo S if I were you, I'd either replace with an aston or masterati GT MC. The reason because both cars are more comfortable, spacious, sound better, and are cheaper than a new better performing car.
Or get a 991 targa, GTS, whatever.
Most likely when I replace my TTS it will be for a 991 TTS. Or aston after MB does their work, or maserati. It really depends if I can find the 991 TTS the way I want it. For whatever reason, porsche owners are boring and don't like deviated stitching. They like plain boring interiors. Easier to find the other cars with the right options since there are way less to choose from.

When I buy a car, I really could care less about other people's opinions, unless it has to do with reliability.
Go and drive every single one of the cars you are considering. If it talks to you, then get it. If it doesn't, who cares what everyone else thinks? It is YOU who will be driving them, not you.

I went to the track for one of those supercar events where you can drive the cars a few laps around the track... there was a lambo, ferrari, 911 TT, Audi R8 - it was a hot humid day in TX and the only car that had to be taken out of the event was the R8 - all others finished the day except 1... I still do not trust audi reliability based off of personal and friends experiences.
I say keep the turbo or get the GT3

As I recall, you're pretty modded. I'm the same, once I reach the perfect state of "modness" I'm ready to move on! I got a .2. Highly recommended, I wrote a thread about the comparison, check it out. The cars look the same, but the .2 is a huge improvement. Much better suspension. Touch screen stereo and nav. The bigger engine has a much better tone, especially with exhaust and a tune. The car is FASTER. Highly recommended. PDK with launch control. Check out my thread.
The R8 looks cool and would probably attract a lot of attention. You probably can't drive it anywhere. A turbo you can still daily without too much craziness. And R8 drivers just don't seem so enthralled with the car.
GTR? Just check out my thread. Be careful if you only do a test drive

A GT3 looks absolutely awesome. You'll have to have ***** of steel to daily one. I know many can, but it will be a ***** in traffic.
Time to move on. It's a fun time!

Really I think between the miles and you are just getting bored. I think you best bet would get a newer turbo or turbo S. One with less miles and a clean slate to mod on. new color and start fresh with changes. A 997 gt3 would be awesome but not much for modding. If you like to mod that will kill you. I personally don't miss all the mods so I'm happy with a 3..
"When a problem has multiple solutions, it probably means that none of them are particularly good."
And so too, with the dilemma you pose. If you're bored, so be it: but one might anticipate a brief period of euphoria followed by eventual boredom, once again.
Having made this mistake with both cars and women in my youth, throwing away more than one of each for boredom disguised as valid complaint, my only suggestion is to find a good one, appreciate it for what it is, and stick with it. Good luck with your choice, whatever it may be.
