Carfax ding and value of car.
Carfax ding and value of car.
Hey all. I found a 2009 turbo CPO car at a dealer. Their asking price is $82k. I had offered $77k before finding the carfax showed an accident claim when the car was 2 years old. My question is, whats it worth now? Car will be CPOd when purchased so start date is 2 years from purchased. Car has already been approved. How low can I go with a price. I am thinking of seriously lowballing because they email about it every couple of days. Fair trade in is $62k. Thanks for any help.

.
No info on wreck. To correct from earlier the accident happened 2 years after purchase. Owner sold it a year after that. It seems like the car has floated from dealer to dealer for the past few years but racked up 20k miles. There is 0 record from 5/30/2012 to 6/18/2015. Honestly this carfax is weirder every time I look at it. Dealer tells me they would never CPO a car with major damage. Seems logical. One owner, clear bra and well taken care of it from the pictures. This car is at a Porsche dealer to be clear also.

Porsche is very strict re the cpo process, anything more than super minor is rejected. Sounds like a good car. Remember, carfax is only triggered with a police report, it could literally be a minor parking lot ding that escalated to a police report for whatever reason.
My late E39 BMW was in 2 quite bad accidents that were repaired and neither showed up on carfax or autotrader.... see if you can get the full wreck report..
also last year I bought and on sold a 2009 6MT chrono 997 TT for $79k so for a wrecked car go WAY LOWER ... you will get the run around on price if you ever come to sell it !

This man speaks the truth. You will get hammered with a dirty carfax if you intend to trade out of it in the future.

What was the damage, Porsche usually does not CPO cars with extensive damage or paint work. I would have them run a paint meter over the car and give you the results.

Carfax ding and value of car.
Minor damage with no structural damage is probably just bumper fix or replacement is technically not a big deal. But buyers normally look at carfax and will pick a cleaner car if both cars are equal. A very minor fix will easy knock off $5k minimum even if the car is perfect
Like someone said here that there could be worse case that doesn't show on carfax . When I was looking a year ago. Clean carfax, all service records, owner said it was perfect but PPI shows repainted at all 4 fenders using paint meter.

Does the Carfax or AutoCheck include a police report number? You can look up the number and find the actual police report, which should contain a description of the part damaged and the severity of the damage.
I had a woman back into one of my cars in a parking lot. Absolutely no damage to the car other than a scratched up bumper cover, but I knew it would be a few grand, informed the woman of this, and she decided that it would be better for her to go through insurance. Police report, her insurance paid, etc. There is an accident ding on the Carfax for basically no reason.
I got a free respray of my bumper cover though.

I agree with this, there are so many 997tt's out there. I would find one with a clean carfax.
Go with your first color choice and options you desire. No point in messing around unless this is the car you cannot be without. Otherwise, contemplating a car that has negative car fax detail on top of a color that is not your first choice does not make sense. After time, you will wish you had the color you desired in the first place.
That is why I hate carfax.
First, the CPO would be an indication the car is in good condition. CPO's from Porsche are usually really strict and they would have caught something should there have found structural or any type of issues.
Second, carfax is only an indicator. I know of people that have absolutely wrecked the crap out of cars, repainted them and did all sorts of things...and NOTHING, I mean, absolutely NOTHING has showed on carfax. I don't understand. I also know of people that have switched seats due to an issue with the stitching, and that showed on carfax as a huge issue due to the airbags attached to the seat...WTF?
I used to have a 2008 C7Z06 with 22k miles It was a great car but everything that could possibly go wrong with it, went wrong. I had a shoe box full of warranty repair work and things that I had done to the car. Only a couple of things showed on carfax. When I sold the car to the dealer, they started to go through the things that showed on the carfax and threw away everything else...?
Carfax is a joke - sorry, my personal opinion.
Check the car thoroughly or have it checked out for issues. If all checks out, buy it. If it is going to bug you, then don't buy it and wait for the perfect one...should there be a perfect one.
