Worth upgrading cars to get PCM 3.0?

I currently have a 2007 black 997.1 turbo cab tip with about 40K miles. My dealer is looking for a black car and has offered me an attractive offer to 'upgrade' to a 2009 white 997.1 turbo cab tip with about 20K miles. As far as I can see the only real difference between the two cars is the PCM system which is the later version (3.0) on the 2009 car.

I've sort of learned to live with the older 2.1 PCM (dual sim for the phone, and MP3 disks in the changer), but am tempted by the newer version with iPod connectivity and Bluetooth.

What is view in the forum on the differences in the PCMs (is it worth having the later one) and are there other changes to the spec that I am missing?

Personally, I don't think it's worth it. The 2009 cars also had the option for ventilated seats and for center lock wheels. Other than that, they are the same. While PCM 3.0 is newer than 2.1, it's still 6 years old. In another few years it will be as outdated as PCM 2.1.

If the color and other options on the car are an upgrade for you, then maybe you should consider it. Remember that your dealer will make money on the purchase of your car as well as the sale of the 2009. He's not doing you a favor, he's doing what dealers do: selling cars.

Thanks Dennis for your input. I accept that the dealer will be making money, but he did make me a decent offer (probably based on the fact that he will turn over two cars very quickly), which got me thinking about the possibility of changing. If it was a 997.2 PDK then I wouldn't hesitate, but I was also not sure if I was really gaining anything going for a slightly face lifted 997.1, so I'm sort of heading down the way you're thinking - probably not worth it.

FYI It will cost me about USD20K for the swap, whereas a 2010 PDK would cost me around USD50K. Can afford the 20K but not the 50K

There are all sorts of viable aftermarket head unit (or upgrade) options that cost well below $20k

That is if the only reason you're considering the swap is for the PCM.

Doesn't seem worth it to me unless you are really excited to go to white. 09 turbos still have old style tail lights right? Sure you are getting into a car with half the miles, but you are going from the devil you know to the devil you don't, so I would say comparing a 40k car you've owned and maintained vs a 20k car with unknown history is not as big a gain as one might think.

PCM sucks either way. You can go to a brand new 2015 aftermarket setup that will absolutely blow away PCM for less than 2k.

if you like the color and lower miles do it. otherwise scrap pcm and get a head unit. I did and it looks TONS better than either OEM IMO as its just a clean screen and has all the modern stuff you could want.

You can kind of see my set up for the headunit in one of these pics, sorry i don't have a better one: http://rennlist.com/forums/997-turbo...ild-share.html

Go with a 2010, I like the touch screen and black color. Also the PDK is so much better than the Tip, along with much better options like dynamic engine mounts, Direct injection etc, etc, etc.

I would not do it. Like what the other person said, "you are going from the devil you know to the devil you don't." You don't really know what you are buying into. If you have an itch maybe pick up a higher mileage 997.2tt or do some simple mods to your current 997.1tt.

In terms of the center stack. You can always have it painted or wrapped in cf to dress it up.

I thought about doing this but the process of getting it done is quite involving.

Get a .2 with pdk or get an aftermarket nav. There are matching bezels (in grey) on ebay that look pretty cool. The expensive part is the bose-most wiring adapter.

Ive thought about the upgrade and its definitely not worth the swing in money. Especially for a tip. A 6spd 09 is a little different but not the tip since pdk is so much better.

If you could stream music via BT I would suggest it's worth it. But alas, Porsche seems to run constently 5-7 years behind the times in that department. So save your money.

I can stream Bluetooth audio to my PCM 2.1. I just added a Mobridge unit.

The interior definitely looks much better with the PCM3.
