Clear Bra
Clear Bra
Well the old 1/4 hood and fenders had given its life well, but it was time to change the faded pock marked bra. I elected to go with a full front clip this time and it looks awesome. I removed the old bra with a steamer and gentle force, very easy, but then had to use clay bar, and polish with orbital buffer before I took it to get wrapped to remove the transition line from the previous 1/4 bra. New materials are much better than back in 2007.....very happy with the results.
I did the same thing a year and a half ago or so. Mine came with the front end wrapped in 3M from back in 07. I had it removed and xpel ultimate applied. The new film is so much thinner and clearer than the stuff from back in the day, which had started to subtly yellow once it was off the car and on the ground. Glad to hear it's back to good as new.

Looks great! The Turbo I have now had 3M product installed several years ago and is yellowing now. I had Xpel on my last 997.2 Carrera and it was perfect, so I plan to do the same as you in the spring. Nothing like a black 911... when its clean!
I have had the 3M scotchguard, venture shield by 3M and most lately the Xpel ultimate.
The scotch guard yellowed but was the bests to polish out defects and provide protection. It was also to short to cover 911 hood 100% in 1 piece.
Venture was large enough o cover full hood but provided po9or protection comparatively.
Xpel ultimate best so far for me. Little orange peel and 1.5 years in and it still crystal clear on a white car.
The installer is key no matter what product you choose.

It is a shame that you still had to polish the car after fitting the first setup in order to avoid damage to the paint and polishing.

I had xpel and yes it's much thinner than the 3m. Being Black didn't see any yellowing but a cloudy appearance due to abrasion. It came off pretty easy( some great YouTube how to guides) and left little or no adhesive. This car lives in a garage and despite the Texas heat hasn't suffered because of it.
The polish process was to normalize the last 9 years and 30k miles of environmental impact
...hard to believe these cars are 9 yrs old!!!!
Can't stress how amazing the new films are in not being visable.....paint shine is indistinguishable paint vs bra.....
