****Help!!! TUNE NEEDED****

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 997.1 Turbo. I will be attending Shift Sector which is a 1/2 mile racing event this weekend. I need at least a better tune to trap a higher speed.

Mods:

V3 Cobb Accessport (off the shelf stage 1 tune)
Fabspeed Exhaust w/200 cell cats
20" p40SC wheels

I've attended twice in the past. My very time in spring 2015 I was running 19" wheels with 50/50 MS 109 at stage 2 Cobb Tune and ran 152mph at 1/2 mile.

My 2nd Time (fall 2015) I went with 20" HRE P40SC wheels and pump fuel 91 oct on stage 2 Cobb tune and ran 134!!!! My best speed was 144.

I was really disappointed. Did the wheels affect my performance? Was it the fuel? The event is this Saturday and I need advice in getting the most out of my semi stock turbo.

Please advice of what fuel to run? Mix ratio? What tune for my mods? I don't want the car blowing up on me either. Im hoping to get atlas 160 out of it. HELP HELP HELP.

Thanks in advance.

Calling out all Tuners.

Doubtful it's the wheels that caused your mph to drop by 20mph.

Just get a custom tune. I recommend Rob Harper since he actually owns a 997.1. It's doubtful other tuners actually own a car they tune. Not saying it's absolutely necessary, but Rob has a lot of experience just playing with his own car that trapped 141mph in the 1/4.

Or, use 100+ octane and try the OTS 100 octane map and see what it runs.

I have only done one No Fly Zone 1/2 mile. I used 93 octane and have a Softronic tune. Before the equipment was set up my Torque Track Recorder showed 167 top speed. Official slip best was 163.4 mph after that

Just as a reference.

Good luck

The only way to tell what went wrong in the 134 run was if you pulled a log. If it was the fuel you would see timing corrections. The wheels would not kill your performance that bad.
No matter what I would be putting in the highest octane fuel possible when doing a 1/2 mile race
There are a few good COBB protuners and a few had or have 997.1s. You would be in great hands with any of them.

Hey bro what's up I'll see you out there. Saturday right with the exotic cars right? Remember Shift Sector is a true half mile from a dig so with your mods 153 would be very good. Your 144 was normal for pump 91. Go back to pure MS109. It does not mix well with 91 so make sure your tank is nearly empty before putting in the ms109. I'll have both my 997.2 and 991 there. Just got my 991 tuned by GIAC on Thursday no other mods and did a 6.653 60-130 with a mix of 91 with e85. That might give you even better results than mixing 91 and ms109.

You could log it and get a custom tune from one of our protuners. That would be your best bet before the event!

Yes...Thanks....I feel I have it running pretty well....clean living

This was a mix. They allow you to go from a dig or a roll. I had a bunch over 160+. I ran about 26 times in 1 day. The GT2/997.2 Intercoolers did great too....all day long. And it just seems to breathe in lots of air with no hesitation with the do.88 Inlet Ducts. Also have been very happy with Softronic tune.....Trouble free and great performance.

Take care,
DC

DC has a very strong car for sure. And is a total bro.

The events that Tony puts on in Illinois, Arizona and California are about 3,000 feet from a dig, so a little more than a half mile. He sets the half mile mark from the roll-on cones, and the distance from the back of the runway to the cones is a couple hundred feet.

So from back of runway you will get a little higher mph than say a vBox 1/2 mile.

So say DC did a 159-160 in the true half...that is fantastic.

We will find out on Saturday

I have always been top end limited...essentially coasting through the last few hundred yards of the 1/2 mile because of the 997.2 stock fuel system limitations. There was some custom adjusting of the tune to prevent fuel limitation issues above 150mph but power needed to be cut back at 150 to prevent the system from drying up.

The new fuel system has been on my car and been through dyno testing only. I need to get it on an airstrip to do more thorough testing, which happens this Saturday.

Will run it at the same 600-ish wheel HP but no top end limitation now so should finally get a good 1/2 mile reading finally.
