considering 997.1tt tiptronic

Selling my 03tt 6MT coupe and looking into 997.1 tiptronic models. Thoughts on the cars listed below? I know plenty about 996TTs. Anything different between models that I should be aware of?

2008 997.1 Cab
https://jackie-cooper.porschedealer....79703/info.php

2007 997.1
http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/5452080870.html

2010 997.2
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151822887375?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I have always liked the idea of a cab, but would lose the lines of the car. Thoughts on round steering wheel against triangular? Mods vs no mods? Tip is necessary for me, so MT is not an option.

Also, please feel free to send me any other for sale ads that you'd recommend. I am looking at $65k and under in red, white, and dark gray in that order.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
J

The red/tan cab looks nice, although not quite in your budget..

Of those 3, I'd prefer the pdk car, I like those wheels and the interior looks nice..it looks like it's got a 9500ci included, which is nice.

The pdk car is local to me, although I've not had any first hand experience with them. I did look at a car online from them once and another RL indicated to me that they looked at it in person and found paintwork that wasn't disclosed.

Do 2008 997TTs have history of cam problems or coolant pipe failures? From what I've been reading, it appears that the adhesive was changed in 2008.

Yes, the only way to be completely free of that worry is to get a 997.2 and the 9A1 DFI motor. Honestly, I think the PDK car is the best of the 3. The tip doesn't hold a candle to the PDK and it is a more reliable platform as well. 65k is nothing for the DFI motors. Capitalize on the average Porsche buyer's ignorance and save a ton of cash.

Mines an 09 and coolant pipes failed, even elbows at a later date. The car has lived in 30-55c though..

Having said that PDK is better for track use. I personally still think a tip is more refined on road. The red gen 1 car looks beautiful imo.
Do you know if fidelity warranty covers cam or coolant pipes? I don't plan to track the car.

If you can get a PDK you'd be nuts to settle for a tip.

I like the PDK, but it is a stretch in $ and there are very limited cars for sale in my budget. I do not want black, but I can always wait for the perfect car if it's worth it.

I know one at least one person on RL that had his cam issue covered by fidelity..I think they would have paid to replace the cam but he chose to upgrade and get it pinned for the delta in cost..

That statement wasn't based on my experiences. The Mezger has known design issues and failure points that are problems regardless of power production. The cam slip is the only issue my car has ever had, and more cars come in bone stock with that issue than tuned in my neck of the woods, per the mechanic. Anyway, the DFI engines have no common failure points known at this time. It's a simpler design, with less expensive components as well. There is a misconception that the 9A1 isn't as strong as the Mezger, however materials science as well as first had experience as the fueling issues are solved are showing that this misconception simply isn't true.

Anyway, thanks for asking about my car. It's actually still down. The cams were pinned and the second I went full throttle after getting the car back, the cam sprocket itself spun relative to the cam centerline. Engine came out, all new cam bolts, etc...first WOT pull and it spun the cam gear AGAIN. Engine is out now for the third time and I'm installing a new cam gear, bolt, etc, etc. A very, very expensive failure to say the least.

Yikes, all that on your dime?

I had a similar experience (engine out 3 different times attemting to fix the cam issue) but I was CPO at the time so it didn't cost me anything..Needless to say, I got a Fidelity policy once the CPO expired..
