Gearbox upgrade
I dunno how noisy the straight cut gears are for street use? (Even your 6th gear is straight if I'm right)
Very noisy, have you ever heard a Cup car passing? It's even worse inside. (I have straight cut 3rd...)
Noise is subjective. Its definitely NOT as loud as a cup car, i've been in one. Cups are stripped with no sound deadening, solid bushing and solid mounts through the chassis. Street cars the opposite. I have a light weight flywheel, on decel the LWF chatter is louder than the gear noise. The exhaust over powers the the gear noise in my opinion. The car has stock headers, bbi side delete and factory center muffler.
Yes, 6th gear is straight cut.
Update:
So I bought Tito's (Bimmer) built gearbox, I may receive it next week.
I hope it is not too loud, I may bolt a 97GT2 helical 6th gear if the actual is too loud.
I hope the gearbox issues will be old story now!

a lot of noise also get transmitted through a solid transmission mount and metal shifter cables. difference is night and day. I went back to a new oem 997 transmission mount.

Did you notice shifts more precise under torque with a new OEM mount?
The reason I am asking is because I know that I want a cleaner shift under low speed high torque situations. I was looking at semi solid mounts for the tranny mounts, but I have LWFW, solid shift cables, WEVO semi solid motor mounts and the sound already I am at my limit.
I am hoping going from my 45000mile OEM tranny mount to a new OEM one, that I would see a difference AS I DO NOT WANT TO DO A SEMI SOLID MOUNT! I just do not want to do the OEM swap to not notice any difference after paying for the part and labour.

Hi guys,
The car is all right and back since this afternoon with ex Bimmer's built trans.
First thing: the straight cut gear noise is NOT an issue at all: a little whine which gives the car a "raw" feeling, nothing more.
I feel the 1st and 2nd GT2 gears are a bit longer but it's nicer vs oem.
The shifting is very sharp and a needs a litlle bit more strenght from 3rd to 6th.
For now still low boost so no torque nor explosive power, I will test deeper soon.

The 1st and 2nd are oem gt2, a little whine comes when you shift the 3rd and the upper gears, you can modulate it up to the load you put with the right pedal.
The sound seems to my ears the same from 3rd to 6th.
I only ran 150 miles with the car for now (70 on track + 80 on highway) but in despite the straight cut noise was my first interrogation it appears to me ok.
Not sure a vid will help, two different friends did not heard the sound when I had them by phone on the highway.
