That is a little depressing to hear, you think the cam issue is a "matter of time" repair with fbo? I always thought it was a very small % of owners having this issue.

Happens to cars that make a LOT of torque. Very easy to make absurd torque on this platform on a hot E85 map. The OTS mapping is pretty tame. I didn’t have any issues with my custom maps until I dyno tuned it and got up to 700 wtq. It spun the cam on the dyno, haha.

Not making it any better haha I was really hoping to go FBO over spring and now i am 2nd guessing myself, unless i have motor build money set aside.

Go FBO and leave it on pump gas or a tamer E85 map. Should be good to go. Fixing the cams is a WHOLE lot less money than building a motor.

its a matter of time on e85, trust me. youll be fine on pump. Pinning cams is no big deal just costs $7-10K.

Pay to play. IMO if you can't afford to fix it don't mod it, or drive something else.

I agree, its not about the ability to afford. If i have to take the motor apart to pin, for myself I am going to also build it. I didnt plan to build it, so its slightly depressing to hear that with FBO it is likely to see a cam failure with higher tq.

I know that rods have a chance to bend beyond 650awtq, first time I'm hearing that the cams become a high risk issue too. I thought that was more random and unrelated

Someone posted an 08 for sale with some pretty significant mods done in the 70k-mile range:

rods might slightly distort but motors will run for years with slighlty bent rods just fine. once cams spin car runs like garbage, and people have run 800whp 700whtq fine with perfect rods but cams always spin

I'm with Roffle ... this is the first I've heard of this. I thought the cam issue was completely random. How can you say, 700wtq cams always spin? Got any stats to back that up? Any one else care to chime in?

no stats other than i know 5 owners personally who all have similar setup to mine (e85 upgraded vtg 700rwhp) and 4 of them got the cam issue, it comes 6-12 months later sometimes. I did mine as soon as i "thought" i my cam started spinning just to get it out of the way in the winter. Lots of cars drive around fine like that and get a CEL once in a while. maybe my friends are unlucky

I would not be afraid of a higher millage car as long as the maintenance history is good.

Provided it has been properly maintained, 60k is nothing!
