I would like to see an even comparison like this as well.

...and I 100% agree with 911m3s2k's statement and had been saying it for years* The traditional long course of the ring is the largest road course in the world that's so huge even on the same day the track conditions could be different at different sides of the course....rain & wet on one side and sunny and dry on the other. To add to that Nurenburg germany is a very temperal part of europe with drastically ever changing climate conditions. Also there is work and changes being constructed to the track every year. That's why if you examine the laundry-list of official nurenburgring lap times you'd see that many of them simply make NO sense. Like a stock s2000 getting roughly the same time as an NSX. Or a few Gemballa GT500 and 600HP 996 911's doing worst than stock 996 TT's...(during a rainy/wet tuner shootout that day...whereas the 996 TT's time represented planned perfect conditions) ..of course they don't tell you these things and all people see is the raw lap time.

--- Kevin

...having said all that, with the conditions and drivers being constant the Nurenburgring is the greatest test bed in the world for comparing sportscars IMO....and is STILL a great "general" litmus test for overall performance of a motorcar.

Our man-on-the-spot says GM spent nearly two weeks testing at the Nuerburgring before Magnusson flew in to set a time. Engineers switched suspension settings and changed tires many times before finding the optimum setup. On that day, GM hired the 14.2-mile, 170- turn track exclusively for an hour from seven a.m. Magnusson, who drove for Jackie Stewart's F1 team in 1997 and 1998, did a total of four laps in the Z06, with his best time coming on his final lap.

And he drove the ***** off that car, getting airborne, getting squirrelly, on a mission- Ring time was going to be flaunted.

Question is, when we look at the higher times for other cars, if the drivers drove as aggressively as Magnusson, would times have been equivlelant? Having driven the Z06, it is awesome. Still I wonder if someone crazy enough couldn't get a similar time in a dialed-in stock Turbo or X50.

I'm mean seriously...this list has a stock M3 CSL running a few clicks slower then a GT2...the CSL is a fantastic car, but its certainly not in a league with the GT2... I'm sure there are other, more ridiculous, comparisons in there, that one just jumped out at me...

thats the point...you dont get the entire story....that CLK may have been in bad weather conditions....Funny, the M6 is said to be faster than the M5 and its WAAAAYYY down there 17 seconds later. Is there any doubt the M6 will be a faster track car than the M5? Lighter, more nimble, same engine and brakes....hmmmm
