Did you Google Street View the dealer's address? 99% of the time with scammers, it will either be a cornfield in the middle of nowhere or Jim Bob's Used Car Lot in some pop. 200 town that would never have a 997 Turbo.

Or, you could (and should) arrange for a third-party PPI. Or, post the dealer's name here and maybe Rennlist and someone in the area might be willing to go give it some eyes.

 

 

There was another scammer claiming to be out of Beattyville I came across a month or two ago. It's impressive how much effort they put into these fake sites.

Most of this "dealer's" prices are suspiciously low, and they have some pretty good inventory for a town with 1200 people and located hours from any big city.

Also, assuming you're looking at the black 2007 6mt, the VIN appears to correspond to a red Tiptronic TT.

You can also ask them to facetime with you to do an inspection of the car. Just be aware they could do this at someone else's car lot too but that is more effort then they will want to put forth.

 

Just tell them you want to come today with cash. They will hang up on you or argue for the wire. If it sounds too good to be true, it’s false.

 

I went through a similar situation just a few weeks ago. Here is what I did:
* Used Google street view to verify there was a business by the correct name at the address.
* Verified with the bank receiving the funds that the account was tied to that address.
* Found the articles of incorporation on-line, showing the business had been around since 2011.

And that was all for a Porsche dealer But the bank account name did not match the dealer name, so I was very concerned. Note that the dealer may be incorporated in an other state; remember that when searching for corporate registration. In my case it was a California dealer, incorporated in Nevada. (Nevada and Delaware are popular states in which to incorporate.)

I've been scammed before. You have 0 protection with wire transfers. Takes months of calling banks and police to get the money back

 

if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is. fly and see the car in person.

or send a third party inspector first, cheaper than a flight, like lemonsquad
