997.1 turbo Loss of power?

Ok, so I am very new to p cars. I just picked up my 07 997.1 turbo about a week ago and it’s been driving great and the few times I got into it, it pulled hard. I mostly baby the car and drive the speed limit. Just today, I noticed that when I stepped on it, the power seems to be significantly less than just a day ago. Almost as if it’s losing boost, or running off just engine power with very little boost. Other than this, the car drives great and idles perfectly.

Any idea what this sounds like, and how I can better diagnose it. I jacked the car up a little to look and see i could see any cuplers disconnected. I couldn’t check too much other than the visible stuff, which seemed fine.

1 week in. I hope this isn’t a preview into p car ownership. Lol though general consensus seems to be pretty good on reliability.

I should probably add: the car is a 6 speed car and has just over 36k miles on it

Lots of threads pertaining to this. Seems some of the hoses leak under full throttle, or the rod moving the turbo vanes is stuck. I’ve got the same problem, will start at the Y pipe on top.

It seems like it would be a boost leak. I read another thread that sounded like it could be the clutch slipping, but it doesn’t feel like that at all. If it were slipping, I would think the engine would rev quicker than the car, but in this case, the engine is slower moving towards the top and it just feels slow.

I too have had this recently on a 997.2 S. I discovered that the sleeve that connects the y-pipe to the throttle body was popping off under boost (y-pipe side). I tightened that down but it continued to pop off. I order a new sleeve and brackets. The parts haven't arrived yet, but hopefully that resolves the issue.

I had that once and it was a sticking actuator rod, as mentioned. My Durametric showed an error code. They're pretty easy to lube up and get moving again, and it should probably be done every once in a while as preventative maintenance anyway. They rust and get sticky fast, especially if you don't get on hard boost and use them often.

Would the actuator rod sticking throw a code normally, because no code was thrown for it when we had the scan tool on?

i was just looking through old service records and it appears there was a air intake hose that had to be reconnected once before like a year ago.

Look at what psi you're boosting to. Should get to .7-.9 bar, possible to see some overboost. None the less if it drops lower than that you probably have a boost leak somewhere.

I don’t have a boost gauge or a data logger. I’m still discovering new things in the car, but is there a place to read boost pressure?

You can see boost pressure on the dash just like your tire pressure for example. I think you are looking at the right things. Definitely checking for leaks If you can log check for knock, even a 100% stock car pulls lots of timing.

On the actuator I imagine it would report a code We set up the actuators to report a vane mismatch code. Essentially you are comparing commanded vane position vs. achieved vane position. So I imagine Porsche like most OEM with vtg is using this method.

Ok, I’m feeling quite stupid right now, because I don’t see a boost gauge or tire psi on my dash...

Lol! I'm laughing because it reminds me of when I bought mine. I was so lost and hated it

To the left of your steering wheel there is a function button/lever. Toggle that up and down. You'll find it. Feel free to send me a message anytime.

Oh my.... lol. I probably should spend an hour learning all the functions of the car. I’m just always too eager to drive it.

I understand 100% and bet most on here agree lol. If the car came with the manuals yes I definitely recommend reading them. I learned a ton doing that, reading posts on here and talking to other members here that have been great lending me a helping hand. The forum has been priceless, lucky to have this.

Checked all the high pressure side hoses today. Some quite loose. Reseated them all, seem tighter. I ordered new o-rings. Both vane actuators move freely. Took a ride, very loud rushing air sound at 9 psi or greater.
