...I wonder how much demand there will be for the new 997 GT3 compared to this "new" TT (I'm sure they will hold their value much better too) ....a current 996 X50 TT is looking to be a MUCH better value than the new TT's IMO...unless you're all about being seen "in the new model." :-/ Just MY opinion, but NOT impressed. I *love* that new Gt3 though! :-O

I'll be honest, at first I hated the 997tt mainly because I was disapointed that my car was going to be out of date. But I knew that they were replacing the 996's when I got my car. So, of course I was a little skeptical at first, but I can now say I love the new 997tt. The two things that bother me about the car though, is the exhaust (going through the bumper) and the vents (to square looking), but both of these are easily overlooked by the specs of the car.
oh btw, if it's true that the tip will be faster than the stick, I would get it. Stick is fun to drive and everything, but if I'm going to spend that much money on a car I want my money's worth. Besides it would be nice to know that you can just ease back while driving and that you don't have to worry about some a$$ pulling up close behind you on a hill.

...FYI, the 997 TT weights in just under 3500 for the manuel, 3571 for the tip. NOT impressive.

Sorry to say "buddy" but those magazines and sites are wrong... Weight depends on options, measurement system, certification system (DIN, etc.) and so on.
If Porsche claims the 997 Turbo is lighter than the 996 Turbo, you should believe it. I'm just a little bit confused with the claims from car magazines which vary from 15-40 kg less weight for the 997 Turbo compared to the 996 Turbo...

Cmon...believe the porsche hype machine??
Anybody throw a stock late model porsche (ahem X51 997, 3.4L 996) on a dyno and had a surprise??!
BTW, i think that we can trust gemballa to make the car even more garish and tacky...that said. I cant wait for the *serious* tuners to unleash the first round of turbo mods. I'll leave a hint...nothing hybrid about it!!

I dug a little deeper and found some more info... so to clear things up.....
"The OFFICIAL Porsche 911 (996) Turbo Technik Kompendium weight statements are:
Leergewicht DIN: 996TT 1540 kg (Tiptronic: 1585 kg) / 997 TT 1585 kg (Tiptronic: 1620 kg)."
So yes, you're right: the new 997 Turbo is actually 35-45 kg heavier than the old 996 Turbo and I'm a little bit surprised to see how Porsche seems to mix up the numbers, by purpose or not. I suppose they took the latest factory weight claims for the 996 Turbo and compared them to the new 997 Turbo. But I agree with you that this is a little bit of a marketing "trick". Because although the 996 Turbo did gain in weight over the years of production, it also gained in performance surprisingly.
But!... the 996 Turbo vs. 997 Turbo power/weight ratio is a different story. 3.3 kg/HP is better than 3.66 kg (by ~ 10%).
And the 996 Turbo S is a few kg heavier than the 996 Turbo due to the increased weight (this is valid for the 996 Turbo too) during the model production cycle.
Weight to power ratio:
996 TT 3.66 kg/HP
997 TT 3.3 kg/HP
Sounds confusing? Well, a little bit.
Long live the 911!
