Need advice on front CV boot axle tear

Hey guys, I have a tear on my front outer cv axle boot. I just caught it when changing out my track to stock wheels. Right now I have repacked some grease in there and have it wrapped with silicone tape, zip ties and gorilla tape so it doesn't sling anymore grease out.

What do you all normally do, replace the entire axle or just have the boot redone. Those front sales are really expensive, over $500 for just one. I'm just not sure how much labor cost is in replacing the boot as you still have to take the axle and everything apart to replace it.

Would you all just fix the boot or replace the entire axle. Also, if anyone has a used one or a vendor that has reasonable prices on one, please pm me. This is on a 2007 997 turbo, manual.

IXXITT is infamous around these parts
I bought a 997.2 turbo back in April 2018 with bad front axle boots. I just rebooted inner & outer boots, new grease, and axle nuts. Overall, was tricky, but not difficult to do.

If the axles aren't making any kind of noise (worn), then rebooting may be a cheap and effective alternative to replacing the entire axle.

Mine are going strong now for 16k miles.

There are many good videos on YouTube that show the general process.

Rebooted mine. It’s tricky getting the ball bearings back in the cage but after some time, they go back. Otherwise straight forward.

While trying to tackle my front diff issue, I ended up replacing both front axle shafts and drive shaft on my 997.1TT. Now I have two expensive axle shafts and a drive shaft collecting dust with ~1000KM. I will sell you both front drive shafts for $600 USD!
