Should I trade for a GT350R ??
Should I trade for a GT350R ??
Well, I recently had a post that I may be selling my 2011 Turbo S cab.
Ive come across a new Mustang GT350R and it is sweet!
I joined a local track recently and it would be a better track car than my RX-8. I would never track the Turbod S since it’s too nice and it’s a cab.
Anyways, after the trade I only end up with $5,000 back to me.
I need some advice.
I like that I can track the Stang and it’s a manual, but that seems at a significant costI’m not sure I’m ready for.
Obviously, life is short and you have to enjoy while you can.
I would love a manual GT3, but it's out of my price point at this time. I think the GT350R may be pretty close in competition, and it's a better value.

would definitely make a better track car, but I think cheap cars make better track cars anyway. There's a used 997 GT3 manual on the for sale section here for like $85k with 40k miles
I guess these Turbo S’s have lost some value and it is what it is.
The GT350R’s in my area are now closer to sticker price, $73-75k.
I’m starting to think I’ll regret it if I do this trade. Both because the Ford has no where near the level of refinement/fit/finish as the Porsche, and also because of the significant loss of $$ that I had put into the Turbo S. (It’s hard to swallow that a $180 car is now worth less than half on a trade.)
In regards to the post about tracking a cheaper car, there is no doubt that it is overall preferred. I definitely worry little with the RX-8 if I was to have an off-track incident or a major mechanical issue. Maybe, I’ll actually enjoy the GT350R less because I’ll be overly cautious, not to mention it’s a wilder ride on the track and I’ll have to work harder to keep it tame.
Anyways, thanks for hearing out a fellow car enthusiast and my rant. Major first world problems here.
I drove a new GT350 (not the R version) before I bought my 997TT- I was thinking about buying one for some daily driving and also for track use. The GT350 was pretty anemic power-wise in my opinion, but I was also coming from a fairly built up Z06. My main concern with you trading is just the long term value. Your 997TT has essentially fully depreciated in my opinion. The GT350 you are contemplating trading for will be worth 40- 45K in a few years, maybe less. Just look at the values of the 2007 and up GT500's. Same thing. They are dirt cheap compared to what they were new. No doubt the GT350 would be a great track car. If it were me and I wanted one for the track and wanted to get rid of my 997TT, I'd sell my 997TT for best dollar, then buy a garage queen 2016 or so GT350 with a few thousand miles for around $45-50K. That's what they are going for now used. The used R will obviously be a bit more.
I bought my 997TT for daily driving and weekend canyon blasts and I bought an old 986 Boxster S for track driving. That car is fun to flog on the track and it won't get me killed like my old Z06 always threatened to do.

You make all great points.
I actually had a modded C6 ZO6 before my 911. I tracked it a little and I definitely felt like it was trying to get me killed at times.
I was also very close to buying an older Cayman S before I bought the RX-8.
I decided no GT350 for me.
I’m going to hold tight for now.
