DSC Controller Failure

Had a DSC controller fail out of warranty on my turbo. Had my shop work with DSC to try and diagnose the issue and they confirmed the unit had failed. Just wondering how common this is and if anyone else has had this issue?

First one I've heard of, though I'm not a mechanic. Have you reached out to TPC? They seem to have great service and might help you out.

Yes. Both myself and my shop reached out to DSC and confirmed it was the unit that failed. The only option I was given was to order a new unit when they were back in stock.

Two years on mine without issue - love it!

From the DSC website:

DSC Sport products are warrantied against defects in material and workmanship for a period of 1 year to the original purchaser and on the vehicle on which it was originally installed. The warranty is void if the product(s) is not installed properly on the vehicle for which it is designed for. This warranty does not apply to any product(s) which has been installed on any racing vehicle or which has been improperly installed, altered, or subjected to misuse or damage from accidents. The product warranty does not cover the cost of labor and any additional parts required to complete the installation of a replacement product. The product warranty does not cover consequential items. Auto Racing is a dangerous sport, and products are subject to failure when exposed to the high stresses involved with use on a racetrack.

In order for any product to be covered by warranty they must be sent in to DSC Sport for inspection.
The product warranty coverage is in the form of repair or replacement at the discretion of DSC Sport. No refund.

All sales are final.

Yes mine was outside the warranty. Just didn't know how common failures were to decide if I wanted to spend the money to purchase a new one. DSC wasn't interested in looking at the unit to see what the issue was or to repair it at my cost.

Was there a warning light when it failed? How did you know?

Since the module does not show up when interrogating the various vehicle components using a Durametric, I doubt it throws any visual faults to the driver.

Most likely the suspension goes into some kind of default and using the button no longer influences the behavior.

Somebody with more experience than me can probably be more specific.

You are correct. It made all 4 corners go to full stiff in both sport and normal mode. Reinstalling the original stock module and it worked fine.

Curious how the unit was "confirmed" failed. Can you hook up a laptop and use their software to read & record values when driving?

You can also take the DSC controller out and hook up and read maps.

Have you tried writing over any base or modified maps?

I bought a unit off one of the forums a year ago and when first installed, the driving experience seemed different. But always questioned (in the back of my mind) if the unit really worked. Recently hooked up a laptop and was able to see values change while driving, so have a little more confidence now

Yes. We rewrote the base map and confirmed the right map was on the unit. We did verify everything through their computer software. Plugging in the original OEM unit had everything working properly. I originally thought it could be a fault in one of the pasm shocks which is why I had my shop take a look at everything and verify it wasn't something else on the car. Through several phone calls my shop had with DSC and troubleshooting the issue they verified the failure.
