I installed the SpeedTech 3” x-pipe with 200 cell cats. Sounds amazing and it is LOUD. This is my weekend/fun car, so I quite enjoy it, but I would not want to do a road trip in it.
This got me thinking, what about the Fabspeed straight pipes with the same HJS 200 cell cats? I was afraid they’d be too much for a street car, but my exhaust is quite loud, and how much louder could the straight pipes possibly be? So it got me thinking, what if the straight pipes would get rid of the drone (less distance under the car)? They’d also save some weight and I am sure would allow slightly quicker spool up.
Anyone know the dB of the FabSpeed catted straight pipes or is willing to measure? I can do the same with the SpeedTech to compare.
If anyone’s around in the tri-state area to meet up and compare, let me know! Would be a very interesting comparison.
I don’t have any experience with the short straight pipe exhausts (I currently have a 3” catless speedtech x-pipe) but I can assume the short straight pipe will be a little louder than the x-pipe. The length of the tubing on the x-pipe absorbs some sound (vibrations) vs a short straight pipe. The drone will also be nearly the same if not worse.
For me, it’s not the volume that’s annoying, it’s the drone. A Helmholtz resonator will fix that…
Check out pwdrhound’s straight pipes with resonators. Pretty slick setup imo
I have fabspeed with straight pipes and have had it with their 200 cell cats as well. With cats it was too quiet for me, with straight pipes its insanely loud WOT. I also am in NYC, you're welcome to stop by my shop and I can show you... to be honest its insanely loud (does drone around certain RPM) but for me its only a weekend/summer car so its manageable. I drove Miami to NYC and Montreal / NYC Roundtrip and it wasnt too bad, but I think everyone is different and for sure when I have a passenger I can tell when they've gotten to their threshold.

Are you guys located in Miami? Let me know and we can meet. I have a nice group local Porsche owners that often meet for breakfast, etc. I'm currently driving a 997 Turbo and GT3.
