new rods, don't need to balance?

Newbe question. I'm watching an Eastern Shore very capable scrapper incredibly restore and modify a 997.1TT shared on youtube. AIM rebuilt the engine to include new rods but original pistons with no need to balance the rotating assembly? Is this an opposing piston architecture benefit or are they exactly matching big journal/little journal exact mass match?
