2006 Turbo Tip Exhaust Drone Improvements

Hi guys

After several nearly done its I finally got into an 06 TT Tiptronic on Friday (was 13th so I hope that wasn’t a mistake ) only driven it for my commute to the office so far so still gotta settle in and remember 911 ownership, it’s been 15 years since my last one.

The cars really well maintained by well known RPM Technik over here in the UK and almost stock that I can tell, so I will be posting about some subtle upgrades separately to this post.

What I was surprised about was motorway exhaust drone, I didnt expect that from the factory exhaust system but a quick Google search suggests it’s normal on these because of the configuration, is that true?

I hadn’t planned on an exhaust yet, so is there any upgrade that can be done to reduce the drone, sone reading mentioned it not being balanced from factory, Id be surprised at that but don’t have the knowledge to rule it out, is it cats or the main muffler causing it.

I sold a lovely R8 V10 a while back as the Miltek none resonated exhaust was just drone at motorway, the 997 TT isn’t as loud but its constant for my 40 minute motorway ride, is an aftermarket exhaust the only cure?

Lovely car, Im looking forward to using it, its only done 29k miles so will get some miles from me, but with some mods like air filter, throttle body Y pipe, engine mounts, lights front and rear and Ive already purchased the DSC Sport PASM controller to fit straight away.

Thanks guys
Carl

Im feeling like the drone has reduced slightly and the car feels more Porsche like with a bit of use, its done next to no miles for a fair while and only 30k in 19 years so some premium fuel and some use seems to be helping it, but Google AI search suggested its common for the 997 Turbo to drone due to exhaust design/lack of balance so wanted to ask on here
