Interesting "launch event" incident....

I would imagine that each and everyone of us would not want our car to be sitting unlocked at a Turbo launch with people shuffling in and out of the showroom. Everybody and their mother would want to sit in the car, play with the buttons, slap the shifter around, adjust the seats, play with the ***** etc etc. There may not have been that many people but IMHO, even one person is one person too many. I am not so **** that I am saying that a few people sitting in the car and messing with it will damage anything but why does my car have to be the display guinea pig? If I have ordered the car and it is pretty much sold to me, there is no reason for anyone other than the guy that washed it and placed it in the showroom to touch it.
If there are a selective few that are allowed to sit in the "special" cars, then they should consider themselved "special" customers. Eric, FWIW it sounds like the salesman that eventually let you sit in the car was giving you the VIP treatment and the new guy was just following orders out of courtesy for the Turbo's new owner.

As most of you know, I work at Carlsen Porsche.
I've been working at dealerships/car related fulltime for 10+years.
This past weekend, I took my friend to a Toyota dealership in Sacramento, where she lives. She said she didn't want them harassing her and asked if I would say the car was for me. No problem. So we go in, I say I'm lookin for a RAV4 with 4X4, bla bla bla. We walk out to the car, the salesguy has no clue as he explains before we get to the car that he is new, just out of some accounting job. I could care less, just want to check out the newly changed car for her as she wants to buy this month. I asked if I could drive the $25k car and he asked if I was going to buy today. I said no, just want to check it out and answer some of my questions about the car I had. He said they don't let people drive cars unless their going to buy one... I said, "what, are you serious" he looked at me with a serious accountant face and said yes. I talked my way into driving the car, I knew more about the car than he did, he not having a clue about any car, was obvious. Was very sad. Long and short, were driving this car and it obviously does nothing for me, but she is happy that were driving it, to check it out. We get back to the dealership, he hops out and says Thanks for coming by and leaves. Nothing about anything to do with me eventually buying one. I was completely shocked. It makes you wonder how these dealerships are staying alive, no training, no product knowledge, no personal skills, nothing other than someone finding the keys and showing us where the car we want to see is.
We looked at pricing online, as the sales guy didnt have an clue about options/costs, she is going to buy one with one request, that we don't go to that dealership.

Brian, this is why some dealerships do better than others. And, good help is hard to find, obviously you are the exception.
I know I spoke to your store at some point in my search for a Turbo. At one point, I was discouraged in the hunt and almost settled for a new C4S Coupe, not that it would have been a bad choice. I don't remember who it was I spoke to at Carlsen, but they were professional and knew their stuff (I think you folks had a GT Silver and a Black coming in sometime in June). It was next to impossible to get a Turbo in Socal at MSRP, so I had to check the out of state dealers to find a car.

"Plug guy" has earned some respect on this board over the YEARS of participation. Please refrain from typing things like "Wow are you a pompus ***!!!!" it will get you know where but alienated fast. BTW there is another "o" in Pompous

However, you're the one who should lighten up. there is no reason to attack a long term member who contributes a lot to this board.

I never expect treatment above anyone else, simply a respectable view of the car when it was a launch event, and anyone who already bought their turbo and was asked to leave it there for the launch event KNEW that it would be touched. If not, they were under cover or in the back.
Lighten up.
Noted.
As we all know 95% of sales reps do not know their product or have social skills. Like customer service just about everywhere (w/ restuarants being the exception), it is poor and basically sucks.
I had some expensive washer/dryers (Kenmore Elite series) delivered and the mover cut the side with a razor while opening the box. The mover & the company (Sears) told be to touch it up with paint. Can you imagine, no apologies, no amends, no dollar compensation, nothing. Mind you I call AMEX to cancel charge. Sears will replace the product this Monday (7/10/06).
Hence I enjoy the brief moments of pleasure life affords us & try to lessen any interactions with a-holes.
My 2 cents
