It is what is known as arrogance of power. Windenkook knows he has a product that US buyers covet regardless of what he charges and what he delivers. The Porsche brand name is strong but I believe slipping.

Years ago the younger generation coveted Porsches because they were unique, exclusive and won many international races. Today those attributes no longer exist. The brand is becoming the GM of the sport car world. Most models of which there are several, share parts (in many cases over 50%) look alike and to differentiate perf. the buyer is required to pay hefty premiums. Additionally, they are cranking out Porsche's like there were Saturns.

I don't believe the younger generation today is that enamoured with Porsche.

Not defending WW, but it sounds to me like that was just one quote from an entire conversation. Before I will judge what he said I would need to see the whole article.

They are selling more cars and making money per each car than anyone else in the auto world. To me these comments are a sign of hubris. Could also be a contrarian indicator of a 'top" in Porsche's fortunes.

I disagree with you. there is still exclusivity to Porsche, though not as much as it used to be. the more common cars they make more of such as the boxster and reg 911s, but you dont really see as many of the C4 versions or targas, but cars like the GT2, GT3, GT3 RS, etc are pretty rare. i think the young generation, which is me and my friends are still VERY enamoured with the Porsche brand. I have a friend whose mom works for ferrari north america and he and all his family said they would NEVER buy a ferrari, but instead still covet Porsches(like crazy).
ferrari is going to be cranking out 20,000+ f430s, you call that exclusivity? i dont.

that is obviously a heavily propaganda laced article by a source that has no merit in my opinion. I find it hard to believe that quote wasn't either taken out of context or completely falsified. Even so, there's a damn good point in it. Have we not become arrogant in the eyes of many countries? Do we take care of our poor? The differentiation between the haves and have not's has grown ten fold over the past 10-15 years. In Europe, the US had been looked at with great admiration stemming from WWII and now we're looked at with much disdain and it's not out of jealousy. BTW, this thread's a bit off topic eh? lol

It's just another "Porsche hater" post, I normally would ignore, but the original poster blasted the same excerpt of the article over on the Corvette Forum and it got locked instantly before any responses could be made. Nice to see it die quickly over there, it should do the same right here too.

Before you say 20,000 F430's is a lot check the figures on Porsche 996 or 997. 20,000 total F430's forever. Yes it is exclusive. Yes you can buy them on the market, but 50 to 1 Porsche 911 over Ferrari. The Ferraris are also 2 to 3 times as much with waiting lists up to 3 years long. I will always own Porsches and think they are great but the kids of today don't know what a GT2, GT3 or others actually are. They see a 911. That's why they don't covet them like Ferrari. Drive down the street in a Porsche or Ferrari and you will soon know how Ferraris are treated. People take pic's of my spider everytime I drive it. Most don't even look at my 996tt. I own 2 Porsche race cars and still believe they are an incredible machine.

WW is the current Chairman of Porsche and he has much greater aspirations that just running Porsche. He will move on soon and be forgotten, but Porsche will continue to be Porsche in the tradition of it founder.

Porsche is not represented by one man's views but by the many hard working people who design, engineer and build each new Porsche with passion for excellence. Porsche still offers some of the finest cars in the world for real drivers. WW has put some of Porsche's culture on hold, but he has not changed it. I just hope he moves on sooner rather than later. Porsche should be run by a specialist, not a guy who wants to run a big car company.

Would I buy another Porsche? In a work "YES".

What would life be without a Porsche?
