DSG for 2008.

Any solid news on this guys? I received a call from my dealer today stating that I could order my car for August 2007, and was wondering if it would be beneficial to hold off for an 08' car and go DSG if it is available. I'm heading in tomorrow to place my order.

Thanks!

Last summer my dealer said his info. was that a DSG/dual clutch tranny would come in 2008, now this is in doubt. Porsche could surprise but I haven't heard any good rumours from dealer sources or other internet forums either.

And for my tastes, I think I would go for such a tranny only if it were a very quick-shifting automated manual that allowed me to choose gears rather than merely shift up or down, and shifted lightning fast even with 700+lb-ft of torque, since that's the kind of car I would want. I would worry that tuning such a tranny could get risky if it were specced to handle much less torque.

I'd just hope it be like SMG in that is really is a manual transmission.

It's already patented by Porsche right? 7 speed dsg, but no news on when it's coming out.. if you havent driven an Audi with DSG I suggest you should test drive, it gives tiptronic a whole new meaning.. if the 997TT tip is already faster, wait till the dsg comes out..if the news is accurate that it's coming out in 08, i would wait..

It "be" better than SMG if it's a double-clutch system like DSG. DSG is also an automated manual transmission, but with incredibly fast engagement times, much smoother than SMG, etc. The Turbo w/a DSG-type box will be VERY fast. I predict a further 0.2 sec off the Tip's 0-60 time.

Porsche wont dare let the data leak out in regards to production time. It will kill Tip sales the year prior. My best guess would be mid 09 models.

Who knows with Porsche and their timeline, it could be as early as 2007 for Europe. I hope they dont call it "Sportomatic" from the 70's 912.

if u don't see it by now it will not be on the market for 2008. btw, will the Tiptronic still be available along side with the new tranny? Porsche has made lots money charging people for the tippy Mercedes tranny.

I've also been waiting for this and already had to pass on an allocation while I decide what to do. The one thing I would add is that it's been way too quiet on the rumor front, which leads me to think it's a while out. I might just get a 996tt in the meantime.
