The RUF guages, pedals and seats aren't nice enough since they're in the much cheaper R kompressor? LOL @ Edmunds.

I dont think that RUF can be over priced, you definitely get what you pay for

I guess its easy to see how for some people, Rufs are way overpriced. We all know its possible to get similar-- if not greater-- performance, by starting with a base car and then having other tuners breathe their magic on it.

So if pure performance was THE driving decision criteria, then Ruf's don't offer very good value, nor are they the logical choice.

On the other hand, there's all those other factors, some of which may be too "warm and fuzzy" for some, that make Rufs the only choice for certain people.

Maybe it was growing up and being utterly flabbergasted at reading about the first Ruf Yellowbird, or watching Stefan Roser in "Faszination". Or it could be the entire experience of speccing your car exactly as you like it, and then going to pick it up when its ready, and your first test drive out is like your first fitting of a fine tailored suit. Except that this suit comes with a nice glass of champagne, the idyllic Pfaffenhausen countryside, and the warmth and hospitality of Alois and Estonia Ruf. And lets face it, for others still, it could be the simple, banal snob appeal of being able to say "its not a Porsche, its a Ruf".

(I recognize of course that this statement is about as polarizing as they come: you're either a) preaching to the converted; or b) about to get laughed at in the face)

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that most Ruf owners did their homework, and were aware of other options. Their eventual purchase of the car, reflects a particular set of decisions and values, that made it the right car for them, just as for instance, a one-off 800HP goliath-- that is both faster than, and less expensive than the Ruf-- may have been the right choice for somebody else.

As long as we're happy with what we've got, that's all that matters, IMHO.
