911 shape

The 911 shape has been around for some 30 years now and Porsche has done an amazing job of maintaining the same design philosophy. Going forward do you think we will see the future 911 as totally redesigned car which goes completely away from the current shape? What do you think it would like?

history and tradition of 911 tells the future. it's evolution and will remain that way. I predict it'll have sharper lines and bigger engine as it evolves. advancement in variants of 997 and electronic update are good. Direct injection and DSG is the next step.

I don't think Porsche is going to completely redesign the car for a while. Look at what happened with the 996. The negative feedback made them go back to the classic 911 Carrera look of 993 when designing the 997. At some point though, Porsche might have to gradually depart from the "classic" styling. We'll see.

It is truly amazing how Porsche has maintained the design all these years. The design engineers in Stuttgart have the most difficult jobs out of all the car designers IMO.

They can still work wonders 'modernizing' the basic shape over time. Good chance of a major (in Porsche terms) shortly to make way for different engine sizes.

It took over 30 years to actually change thr original tub of the 911. (doors roofline etc.) Now were into the 9th year of the current tub. Judging by how much quicker things move now with the insane market and world of cars we live in I would be happy if they could actually keep the same overal shape another 5 years. Hopefully 10!!!! Evolution is a must and it will surely happen. Total departure? I dont think so. I would expect something to get the whole 911 worlds panties in a bunch in the next major change. Can someome say 8 cylinder? ; )
