Nissan aspires to conquer the 911!?!
even if it doesn't "conquer" it, though I think it will regardless of weight, the 911 series as it currently stands is getting killed in the modern looks dept.
whether u like it or not, when u line up an R8 or the new GTR side by side with the 911 Turbo or whatever 997 variation... the 911 looks... like the old guy.

The R8 should look new as it is a brand new design. GTR's were only coveted here because they were so rare, in europe and asia they are like every other NSX or Supra or something. Nissan wont sell many for 70k.
Their goal is a 7.45 ring lap time, which if run on good tires (MPSC's) will not be faster than the 997 tt. If run on some basic tires this will be real fast and enough to eclipse the tt. Doesnt it come with 20's or something? I thought I read that somewhere, if it does you can forget it. The car is being released in the fall, if it ring times should be released pretty soon as it has already been seen testing.
Should be a great rivalry for years to come.

I like everything about the R8 so far, but the headlights, they look like they are built into the bumper when they should be on between the hood and bumper.

GT-R will be the new Supra in reference to stock ones being an extreme rarity and 600hp+ the norm. If that thing has anything less than 500hp its going to be a very hard sell for $70k at a Nissan dealership. I do not think Nissan will dissapoint however.
You dont continually state it will beat a 997TT and show in public a 997TT shadowing its every move and then fall behind it in performance when all is said and done - that would be an embarassment. I also dont think Nissan will resort to 99% of the performance for 50% of the price marketing tactics either - I cant wait to see what they turn performance numbers wise.

This is going to be fun. What a great time to be a car enthusiast! I personally don't think the car looks that great but more competition is always good.
Even if it comes close to the TT's performance without beating it they are bringing it in @ Cayman S or base Carrera money. Pretty impressive, IMO.
