Nissan aspires to conquer the 911!?!
Funny, I have been thinking of getting a 2+2 to compliment my M5 and the 997TT is at the top of the list. I have been following the GTR for the past year or so just to see what happens with it as that has sparked some interest as well.
I was showing my wife today the Edmunds video and told her maybe the GTR would be something to strongly consider.....her response, "Sure, it looks good. But it's a Nissan, definitely not a Porsche!" I then respond, "Yeah, but for the price difference in the GTR and 997TT I could buy you a new Cayenne." "Now THAT'S a really great idea," she says.
Crap, did I just talk my way out of getting a 997TT with my wife!! I am a complete moron

haha... I'm not sure one could make a case for Miata > GT3

I'm addressing cars like the GTi etc... IMO not as fun as the RWD or uber awd Japanese cars.
Just because it's German doesn't make it automatically superior.
Just because it's Japanese it doesn't necessarily have zero fun factor.
Agreed?
This will be very interesting, looks like the Turbo and the Skyline will meet again, i cant wait to see the result, esp since there a new player in the game aka Z06. I who else will be joining? I love LOVE competion because the True winners at the end of the day are the buyers, competion equal better pricing, value for money and quality LOL.

so i retract my statement of japanese cars having no fun factor.
group hug!
The interior and styling of the Evo and STi are just awful, IMO. That's a big reason I'm driving an S4 as a daily.
The GTi and R32 interiors are much nicer than the scooby or evo - no question.

Amazingly fun! As long as it's wound up - it is a really fun car. Very soft out of VTEC though.
Having 9000 rpms to play with is tons of fun on track days and auto-x events. Very tossable and the car does what you tell it to do as long as you don't lift.
Some guys daily drive it but I don't see how. Perfect weekend toy.
More fun than faster cars I've owned actually since you really have to be involved to make things happen.

I took my g/f out this past weekend for a test drive to show her why I am always praising it. Now she's a believer.
997 Turbo & GT-R nearly identical times around Sears Point. I really think this GT-R is gonna be a hit.

Sorry porshe guys i think we allready have a winner, for a smaller price, and it is styled for the future and not of something from the past. Even if you say,"oh its just a nissan", doesnt matter, they are all cars despite where they come from. The only people that bag on japanese cars and the people that own them, are people that have there nose stuck up in the air and dont want themselves looked out differently by there friends, woman, and there competition. I for one have allways been a fan of japanese cars, but then got a chip on my shoulder and started buying euro. having a 996 turbo and a RR sport SC what is the real difference guys,"interior", no its abote reputation and rich guy classification. When i was embarrasing Pcars and exotics in socal with my supra, i didnt say my car was faster than your because of the interior. i wouldnt say haha, you just got beat by a 45k dollar car, but rather congratulated others with respect. if this affends anyone in any way, just think of how others may feal when you bag on there japanese cars. Start thinking in a way that others may not have enough to buy a 997 turbo so they purchased a 2008 skyline to match or even slightly beat a 997 turbo and not have to live in an apartment for the rest of there lives to afford a high price euro.
I don't think the Porsche guys are sorry for what they have (be it a 997, 997S, GT3, GT2 or TT, they have nothing to be sorry about. They own a piece of racing history and a sports car that almost every manufacturer aspires to be. Almost every new sports car that comes out has to use the 911 as the standard to beat. I wonder why?
Even Nissan sees the Porsche as the benchmark. The GT-R is nice, if it were better than Porsche they wouldn't have to live up to the Porsche Benchmark. Do you see Porsche using other manufacturers cars as a benchmark to beat? I don't think so. Nuff said...

With a comment like that. Do you think nissan would be rolling around everywhere with a lambo, ferrari, Aston martin, etc doing testing. No, they are not trying to convince those consumers, but rather you,the 997 turbo crowd with the racing history and heritage you possess. Even though nissan is using the 977 turbo, why would they using it as a benchmark if they arnet going to out perform it or come very close. Carlos Ghosn knows that even if they fall short of the 997 turbo the people that purchased there skylines can add nismo parts from there catalog, out perform the 997 turbo, and make more money on top of the 70k or however much the gtr will be. By the sound of it your the type that likes to be sure that you have the best rather than being the underdog and stealing the prom kings girl. You dont allways have to show the best numbers to be the real winner. There will probably be 1 magazine that will say the 997 turbo is better and then another will say the gtr is better.Just like the new zo6. There have been so many comparisons i dont know who to believe. Its really about if you have respect for all cars, and to not be biased towards porsche. By the way i would like to ask you 1 question, does the,"SKYLINE" name have any racing history.Oh wait a second, not as much as porsche right. I think they are both awsome cars and are both in my top 5 favorite cars.
