Do you have to have TPS's installed on new wheels or is there a way to bypass this? I'd like to try to go without them if possible.

 

I don't know - I assume so and someone else will chime in with the answer.

However, I'd like to add a word of caution. The system recently saved me from potential major inconvenience and possible danger when it alerted me to a screw in my sidewall just before I was about to take a high speed 400 km. drive with the wifey.

I've not found any way to bypass TPMS - if you mount wheels without the sensors you'll just have to live with the warning light.

 

What wheels are you going with? We used sensors on the dymags without any problems.

 

Techarts...

 

I would be very surprised if the Techarts weren't already drilled for the TPSM stems. TPMS is a very very easy install BTW.

 

We always include TPS in a tire package with any 2007-up 997 as they all have them (optional on 2006 cars). They cost less than 500 for 4 sensors brand new so it really isn't a bad idea. The TPS screw right in to the TechArt wheels anyways. Anyhow, anytime we send out a tire package we can just add the sensors, we stock at least 12 pcs (3 sets) of them at all times.

If you are buying local, it would only take about 10-15 min for the whole set to extract the sensor from the OEM wheel (tire does not have to fully come off - they can just push the bead back) and to install in your new wheels.
