Audi R8 beats 997TT in recent C&D article...
Pretty suprising track times. What do you lot make of this?? Not trying to start a ZO6/997TT-esque thread, just letting you guys know about some other choices out there, especially when the V8 R8 was not supposed to be this fast.

I would like to add that while surprising these figures should be taken with a grain of salt--especially the EVO times. As we all know, conditions and drivers can make a big difference. I am pretty sure that the list of track times compiled by EVO are acquired at the time they review the car. The GT3, Ferraris, etc. could have been tested months ago.
However, 3 almost 3 sec is nothing to scoff at (referring to the C&D times).

Those lap times are to be taken with some scrutiny. There are Rustangs and Miatas turning low 1:30's with relative ease at Willow Springs. While the R8 sounds like a good handling car, 3 seconds is an eternity. More likely these guys just can't drive worth a damn.

posted a few seconds before me............I gotta be faster!

I love Audis, but I'm not a huge fan of the looks of the R8. Plus, torque is everything and a small displacement normally aspirated V8 just doesn't have what it takes for me. Kudos to Audi though.
where there's smoke there's fire...
personally i'd be watching as more and more of these track tests of the R8 surface. so maybe its not 3 seconds faster than the beloved Turbo around Willow. but preliminary indications are that its no slouch.
and that's before the car has gotten the V10 from the Gallardo!
i'm not bowled over by the looks... but credit where its due.

The mag drivers didn't have enough ***** to drive the turbo hard. Should have used pros or somebody with 911 track experience. These guys were scared sh*tless of the back end coming around and probably lifted at the time they should have been accelerating. An old saying in Porsche circles is "always keep the finger in the flame"

what you meant to say. . . At least the R8 has the ***** to be different and IMO looks pretty sick.
