[quote=Mike2727]Johnww I agree life is more valuable, although you are talking about speeds that would cost a lot more then just a speeding ticket

You are looking at jail time, confiscation of vehicle etc

True, but when dead...those things mean nothing. One has to recognize important trade-offs.
In this same vein, there are new rulings in Florida. Racing is now 1st degree misdemeanor. Vehicles can be impounded for 10 days. A car used in 2nd violation within 5-years can be seized or forfeited. However, what is interesting is that one can shoot someone if he feels his life is in danger.

I have always thought, get caught racing (such or horrid thing on this no-traffic highway), but it can happen, I guess. Then if caught, one could say the other driver threatened you with a gun and you were running from him. Looks like in theory you would be better off legally shooting the guy than trying (racing) to get away from him. However, I bet even giving the officer an excuse, i.e., didn't want to shoot the other driver (no time to get to gun), just wanted to get away fast as possible, most likely wouldn't work as well (legally) as the deadly force idea. Such a shame, these strange laws keep creeping in the system ever-now-and-then.

Johnww

That is an interesting thing you brought up

I am Dutch and before I moved part-time to Florida I was driving a rental in the days that they were shooting tourist right and left (remember)

In those days the excuse of running away (at high speed) worked many times for me, and they (cops) accepted it

But times have changed, and I guess we are better off shooting somebody (in self defense) then speeding

But again I agree life is more important, I was just stating what I did way back in Holland when chased, and the light switch made it a lot easier
And I do not encourage anybody doing so, but I would choose it over using nightvision goggles

I truly thought we were all more mature ladies and gentlemen here. God forbid if you hit my family in their car being Stupid!!

Smoothcab,

I would appreciate if you could read what I wrote
and you would see that I was chilling

I for one do not consider night goggles (or the light switch for that matter) save for driving at night, but maybe you did not noticed that post ?

On another note (still chilling ):

Did you ever go over the speed limit ?

This will be my last post in this thread, since things are taken in the wrong context it seems, and that is not my intention

Maybe I should have my laywer present before I post anything

With all respect
Mike

Yes, and such a comment without really understanding the "whole tread" appearing on a 911 turbo board, too, is amazing . . However, such remarks arise often from "trolling adolescents" sitting less than a 1/2 foot from their coddling single-moms who nurse their continuous faulty-dreaming that someday instead of their 4-cylinder mustangs(or bikes), these moms will get them a 911 turbo. Right. There seems to be one of these delusioned know-it-all adolescents lurking on every forum, regardless. Such a shame.

Mike, Interesting Post from you, considering I was not directing my post to you. You must have a guilt complex thinking I was directing my chill post to you. It was directed to the individuals that were comtemplating ways to speed at night with their lights off endangering my family and others to evade law enforcement. My suggestion to you is to grow up and accept the fact that we are gifted and intelligent gentlemen that have the means to enjoy the luxuries and toys that our business success have afforded us. With this success comes a greater degree of responsibility. If you can't stand the heat in the kitchen then stay out!!!

Highways here (Kuwait) are completely lit up .. you could probably drive at night without your lights on.

Johnww owes an apology to Moogle. Thought Moogle was grumbling with his target aimed directly at the initial opening-thread which was seeking a safer method to observe objects in media/soft shoulder with nightvision equipment at night at >85mph speeds with headlights on. However, Moogle's teen-comment was a Mike/Moogle/advocates of no-headlight driving fuss and not aimed at the original thread that had a safety aspect attached to it. Bad mistake on my part, sorry about that. However, I still have a major problem understanding how "gifted and intelligence" with "greater responsibility" works in with "can't stand the heat/kitchen/stay out comment." 2me, these two phrases seem a bit divorced from one another, but maybe not.

The taillight switch is very doable. Actually the example that i had seen it done was on a 996 GT3. This guy was actually a retired cop in his low 30's and i guess he likes to run at night. Pretty cool but yeah dangerous. Hope he's not smuggling cocaine. LOL

Keep good police radar and laser detection equipment with u.

I've had no trouble with a Cobra system I once owned....nor with the Whistler radar/laser scanner either.

I use both for my vehicles. (of course not 2 in one car).

There was a really cool radar/laser scanner and scrambler that was on the market, really cool system. I forgot what its name was. The scrambler/scanner units u put hidden idelly in your grille (couldn't see it), and u had a "on/off" switch u mounted hidden somewhere near u. I forget the name...I gotta look it up cuz I want that!

Have u considered night vision googles with the best peripherial sight? The largest range of site, not just straight ahead, but also with the LEAST amount of blind spots

John, no hard feelings I hope, my reply was not directed at you. In light of all the recent and past tragedies, I was just advocating the safety aspect of it.

I'm sure it is an easy choice for anyone to decide between (at worst) getting their car confiscated in a speeding/racing pullover and slamming into/injuring innocent bystanders by running from the cops without your lights on.

If used responsibly in the hands of trained self aware individuals, nightvision/etc should only enhance one's safety on the roads.

Hell, Alex Roy (who I did the gumball in 05 with) has the same equipment on his polizei m5, its some amazing machinery, but should only be used when appropriate (though i'm not sure when that really is ) .

All the best.

^ And so you get arrested for illegally inlfuencing the traffic signal.......

That device turns into a super bright strobe light while it's working, and there is a matching strobe triggered on the traffic light to alert the function is being used....not exactly "low key"
