Calipers-Paint or Powder Coat?

Do any of you have experience with both applications? Ebay seller with a core trade in for powder coated calipers, $599, any experience with this seller and his product? What should I expect to pay for labor to swap out the calipers?

Powdercoat is the way to go. You should be able to get them removed and powdercoat for like 600. 600 just for the coating is too expensive.

$599 is including finish work and powder coating in which colour you want including decals. The seller, I guess this is Speeddesign, Tony is very competent, correct and helpfull.

I have bougt lots of stuff from him without problems.

So powder coat should be the best long term application...??? Now, this is a core exchange, so I need to find someone to replace my existing with the new powder coated calipers. How much should I expect to pay to have these swapped out?

I've always heard paint is the way to go on calipers because of their heat generation. Powdercoat for wheels, paint for calipers. I'm probably off base, but I'd check with one of the board sponsors who sells aftermarket brakes just to be sure.

I know for a fact that if you paint them it has to be special heat resistant paint...

I good mechanic should have no problem doing the job in 2-3 hours. The job itself is quite simple. Remove the brake pads and sensor. The calipers are fasten with 2 bolts on the hub. You have to disconnect the brake lines, so its a perfect opportunity to change you brake fluid at the same time.

I don't know the rates in US but I hope you got an idea. You don't need a Porsche certified workshop to do the job either.

You can use standard auto paint. The only time you might run into problems is if you track your car and really give brakes a workout.

Alright, now that we are all over the board from powder coat being the way to go, to has to be a heat resistant paint, to standard auto paint is fine, I am still not sure which way to go. Anybody with personal experience one way or another able to chime in?

I have experience with regular automotive paint. My calipers are painted with Lamborghini yellow paint, and have lasted just fine. I can imagine there being a problem if they were tracked, but they hold up to regular use nicely and still look as good as the first day I had it done.
