My 997 2S seems when it isn't totally warmed up and sometimes even if it is, Second gear is hard, notchy, and/or clunky to engage. The other gears are all smooth as silk.

if this is your first porsche, it's normal. when I had my first porsche back when i had the 996TT, i thought my porsche was broken. 3 dealers and 4 other test drives later, I realized my 2nd gear is actually better than most others...

 

For me it is 1st gear that is notchy and sometimes almost impossible to engage when cold. Seems like others have similar experiences and it is just part of owning a Porsche.

 

same here,1st and 2nd.You just get use to it after awhile

i think the ap2 fixed this problem solved. S2000 is good to go.

 

My 997C2S is my 3rd p-car and this is totally normal. BUT, it didn't do it on my 07 Cayman

 

First p-car. I was ready to at least change the gearbox fluid because it is not very happy when cold.

When is comes to gearbox - S2000 > C2S by a big margin.

 

We have 2 carreras in the family and both won't go into first sometimes, is this normal?

 

S2k has a sweet gearbox. Similarly the gearbox on my C2S>>much better than the gearbox on my e46 M3. That had long throws and was more notchy...great car though.
