Wait for 20,000 for oil change...

So my 997 is now a year old and about 10,000 miles. I know this has been discussed many times before but I am wondering how many people do wait until the recommended 20,000 for their first oil change? I am keeping the car for three years and 36,000 miles. Is there really any reason to NOT go with the recommended advise? I would think that most Porsche owners don't hang out on this forum and probably go by what the manual says....

Thoughts?

I believe Porsche has changed the recommended oil change schedule for 08's to 12 mo or 12,000 miles w/e comes first; so imo this would be a good schedule to follow.

I know this has been discussed several times on the board already but here's my 2 cents.

If you own your Porsche or intend on owning when you pay it off, I'm hard pressed to think of any good reason not to change the oil more frequently than 10,000 miles. I may be throwing money down the drain but I would never go more than 1 year of 5,000 miles without changing out good quality oil and filter. It's cheap insurance.

If you lease your Porsche and don't intend on buying it at the end of the lease then why put an incremental penny into the car that you don't have to?

I change mine ever 10,000. The latest revision to 12,000 reflects a better concern for engine longevity over pollution minimization which was the driver for the 20,000 figure.

Mobil 1 has such excellent performance characteristics that changing oil more often is just a waste of money.

My first 911 was a 1981 S recommended oil change after 1000 mile break in was 3000 miles. My newest, a 2007 911S Cab. I will change Mobil 1 once a year . I only put about 3000 miles a year on it. It is my "garage queen". Daily driver is a 2005 CTT.

I changed oil at 10k mi intervals the last 2 times. Last time I did it, the oil looked very healthy and golden in color. I think I will wait until 13k mi.
