What all do I need to know about going to straight pipes?

Hey everyone,

In case you don't know, I have a 997S with the Evo blower on it, Fabspeed headers and exhaust (stock cats), RPD plenum. I have the standard GIAC flash for the car with all the mods except no change to the program since the plenum. Since I'm going like 90% race car now, I'm thinking about getting Fabspeed's test pipes to remove the mufflers and cats. I fully expect this to make my CEL stay on. But will I need to have it reflashed by GIAC? Is there anything else to know?


Won't this be badass on the track?

Let me know. I'm thinking I can gain a few horses here.

Other than more noise, you will gain nothing as far as performance goes. So, if your goal is to be annoying, you will acheive that. Removing just the mufflers is more than enough.

Jared - My friend had them on his 996 (anniv. ed) and they were VERY loud. They made my Fabspeed mufflers (which I really like) seem quiet. He felt a slight loss of power at lower end. He recently took them off because he felt they were way too loud for driving in and around the neighborhood. (I guess it depends on your neighborhood and your relationship with your neighbors. You'd probably scare off Mr. Rogers

I would recommend changing the OEM cats only to sport cats from fabspeed...

Hmm... Synergy Racing (who does my work and campaigns in the Rolex Cup) runs their cars straight. Granted they aren't blown, but I've always heard that boosted engines do best with as little back pressure as possible.

as long as you realize you will never talk on your phone again while driving they are cool. you will have the custom chopper feel. imo they are too loud.

... you won't get a CEL if you just remove the mufflers.
