Check engine light ( 997 C4S )

Got this tonight . Weird thing is that the water temp went to 175 in 3 minutes and stayed there . Its very cold in Chicago ( 15 degres ) .

At first i thought i was out of coolant so i filled it up but even after 2 hours parked outside , i restarted it and again the water temp just went to 175 in less than 3 minutes .

Any idea ?

It sounds odd that you had to add coolant an how much did you add?

What year is your 997?

The coolant reservoir is located in such a poor way and it was dark, hard to gauge how much was left , so i dipped a pen and it was way under max . But the check engine light popeed before that . I noticed the PASM was shutting itself these past 2 days...I doubt i dreamt it ..( i always drive in Sport ) .
The car is 2006 .

Have you noticed any coolant leaking? -- A coolant leak is probably the most common cause of overheating. Possible leak points include hoses, the radiators, heater core, water pump, thermostat housing, head gasket, freeze plugs, cylinder heads and block. If no visible leak is noticed, fluid could be passing through a head gasket and out one of the tail pipes. Look to see if one of the tail pipes looks any different.

Have you noticed the fan coming on excessively to remove heat?

How many miles?

Don't chance serious engine damage call 1-(800)-PORSCHE!

Good luck!

It was too dirty and wet outside the office to notice any leak but i will check in the garage tomorrow am. But the weird thing is that the temp doesnt go higher than 175, it stabilizes at 175 , which is normal temp .
The pic was after 10 minutes of driving going home. So the temp doesnt go higher than 175...

Didnt notice the fan coming on .

It has 17500 miles .

Im puzzled but i will take her to the Exchange tomorrow ...

Thanks , i ll update the thread with any news.

Since your car is stock .. it should be fixed under warranty.

I use the durametric to pull CEL codes .. usually the best way to diagnose problems.

Are you sure? Last I checked, FVD was the only US retailer on their distribution list:

Hi Raja,

we at FVD do sell it and are a Authorized Durametric Distributor. You might find a few more places in the US which sell it however make sure that they are able to answer questions upfront. Just ask them simple things that they can find the answer on the internet, such as:

Why do I need the .NET Framework to run the Durametric Diagnostic Tool ?
What is the .NET Framework ?
How behaves the tool while running on battery mode (Laptop) ?
Can I use it on a mac ?

If you want to check it out give me a call and ask me the questions

The Easy Toolkit sells for $249
The Profi Toolkit sells for $695

Thanks, Flo @ FVD
