The car should accelerate smoothly from just above idle in second. I will often use second from a rolling start such as you describe. Accelerate at partial throttle and learn where (at what rpm) car will accept full throttle w/o balking. Never in any of the higher gears my friend: listen to your car. Gerry

somehow i unsubscribed from this thread = p sorry, and thanks everyone who replied. It's not the clutch, I'm just in the wrong gear. I test drove a stock 997S and it behaved the same.

Yes, it use to be Byron's car, he gave me a great deal and let me adopt it from him. The car has 15k miles now and I'm loving every minute of it. Added a custom clear bra from Premier Auto. here are a few pics:
