Audi R8

Okay, so I wasn't a huge fan of the R8 when it first started to show up in the media. However, in the SuperBowl commercial for it (Godfather theme) it looked really hot. Am I crazy to be thinking about a potential swap?

no, the rarity of that car makes it worth the huge premium you'd have to pay. but if you can afford it, its freakin sweet.

Novelty erodes.
When the 997S was launched in 2004 I bought a launch car and the demand at that time was incredible. The 997S was the coupe du jour back then and now one can buy it at a discount --making your car the best value in this class.
Before you plunk down 60K plus your car to buy the Audi -- ask yourself this --If the Audi had been around for a few years and Porsche just launched the 997S would you feel the same way ?

If the answer is yes --buy the Audi .
If not -- cherish what you have before willingly trade it in and lose it .

No you're not crazy at all...I liked the car from day one and I recently saw one in black w/ a carbon/black blade...amazing looking.

I think the S version will be a V-10 not 12.

I'm having the same thoughts. I will probably wait til the end of the year maybe early next year before pulling the trigger. I've been back and forth about a month.. I like the sound of the r8. I love my 997S but I have had a problem with every aftermarket add-on i've done. wheels, still aren't right, mufflers went bad, cats went bad, tips didnt fit, Awe has guaranteed all the repairs but just not happy I had to go through it.
Makes me frustrated with the car even though it was aftermarket problems.. anyway, nice car, v8 sounds good and I'm sure the v10 will be bad *** also.

I absolutely love mid-engined cars and am intrigued by many of the write ups which refer to the R8 as a modern interpretation of my beloved NSX but... I just don't like the way that car looks. The "blades" seem very silly to me and absolutely ruin the lines of that car.

I know it's bloody quick and very fast over the road but I wouldn't trade a 997S for one. I especially wouldn't do that when you consider how much $ you'd have to throw into the mix to make that trade work.

I love the R8. Not enough to pay the current difference in price but in a couple of years the R8 will be on my short list.

Too bad Audi's poor resale value will likely not apply to the R8, otherwise it could be a steal a few years down the road.

^^^ I'm hoping they do drop a bit because of the bigger engine model being released.

Even very low production Audis take a hit eventually - the 2003 RS6 is a bargain right now.

Hey Jay - you have your rims on yet?

i would rather get the turbo. the R8 would be interesting and would set you apart from the crowd, but the turbo has timeless design and a legacy in racing backing it up.

the R8, while totally new and cool, is going to just be the flavor of the week. do you guys see the R8 as a sustainable profit driving product for audi that will keep it in production? or will it fall out of production like every other limited production audi out there?

Get one if you have the means; i certainly would. Seen two in person at local dealership and been even more amazed at it's beauty than what i've seen in pictures. It really is jaw-dropping.

The R8 really is the new kid on the block. I always try to hate it and think of the 911 as being iconic and timeless etc. etc. but the R8 really is cool, "fresh" , and now. If you have the means, and you want to have the latest greatest thing, then go for the R8. I can't see the design being timeless though, the rear end still bugs me.

i thought it looked cool and exotic when i first saw it. but the more and more i look, i see an audi tt on the front end. the novelty will wear off pretty fast.
