"Crunching" sound at low speed turning radius
Anyone experience a CRUNCH or GRIND sound on a 997 C2S when cranking the steering at low speed, (Like U-turn or exiting a parking spot)?
My last car was a 996 C4S and it had it's own idiosynchrasies, but I don't remember this sound...
It sounds like its coming from the steering parts at the front. Can't tell if it's right or left sided...
Eager to hear from others!

figgered as much
But it's always nice to be reassured...
In other news:
Has anyone ever experienced a slightly greasy "goo" on the inside of the windows when you roll them up or down?
It's about a four inch wide streak around the middle of the window.

Yup! I just wipe off the window occasionally, was covered in another forum, Rennlist? a while ago...common.
when i first got my 997 c2s, it also had a sound when cranking it all the way for a u-turn. it wasn't really a crunching. i thought that it was an idiosyncrasy of porsches in general. turned out that the front wheels weren't aligned. i found that out months later when i took it in to the dealer for another problem. when i first got it, i didn't think at all that it needed alignment since to car was new. and the steering didn't pull to one side or the other when driving straight. get the alignment checked.
My car makes that sound too...but not all the time...seems to happen after the car sits for a while...

Don't "crank it all the way" at slow turning speeds. You generate a steering angle that is too steep and the front tires slip (skid at an angle) on the ground rather than roll smoothly. The steering has no stops and will exceed the turning radius. You can feel the point where the wheels begin to "fall" into the turn. Countersteer away slightly (straighten the steering wheel) and the tires will roll not push. Once you feel it it becomes natural. This is only a very slow speed issue.
