997 Facelift
What should I do?
Hi Guys,
Finally I can post, feels great!
I've been hearing about face lifts on the 997 models.
I just ordered my 08 C4S.Delivery should be end of May 08.
Just wondering from you fanatics was this a good move or should I cancel and wait for the revised 997 model.
I mean they will include led lights, that where all the companys are going and my model doesn't have it. Also more horsepower kind of makes me wonder.
Or should I just enjoy my baby and close my eyes to anything that will happen in the future .
Great to be part of this guys!

I'd hold out for the facelift. Although you would certainly be happy with the '08, once you start seeing the facelifted model on the road, it may bug you that you didn't hold out...
I seriously doubt direct injection alone will be good for 20 to 25 hp. Look at all the modifications that went into the X51 kit to net 26 hp. When Porsche went to direct injection on the Cayenne they also increased displacement. The V-6 went from 3.2 to 3.6 for a net increase of 43 hp. The V-8 went from 4.5 to 4.8 and saw a net increase of 45 hp and the turbo went for a 4.5 to a 4.8 and picked up an additional 50 hp.
Outside of forced induction increasing displacement is the easiest way to increase power. Not discounting the benefits of direct injection on both performance and gas mileage without an increase in displacement I don’t see huge increases in hp on the direct injection 997 3.6 and 3.8 but instead I think we will see a modest increase in hp along with improved gas mileage and better midrange torque to enhance drivability. We can only wait and see.

I had the same dilemma, decided to go with the '08 June delivery. I've justified it to myself using many reasons including the discount on the '08 vs. MSRP on '09, the newness of the DFI, the ugliness of the LED taillight spy shots, but it really comes down to impatience.
I just want to drive it all summer, I'll get a 998 when those are released in a few years.

The x51 kit is a waste of money, aftermarket can replicate and supercede the gains for far less cash, dyno proven.

I currently have my order in on a MY08 C4S and I plan on sticking with it.
Many of the "updates" I don't care about. The performance update is the only one that piques my interest, and if it is 15 horses, I'll be content with my 08.
In fact, iif I wait for the facelift, I won't be able to drive my car in two months from now and won't get the double-digit % discount. So, for me, there was no reason to wait.

But I will stay with the 08 model because of it's great reputation.
Hey IN THE AIR what made you get the 4S in particular.
How is it equipped?

Well, I'm adding to the rumor mill since I heard something today, from a credible source: Facelift Carrera is definitely on the way for this year. Surprises: lighter in weight (yay!), DFI technology (shared part numbers from the Cayenne engine).
The focus of the car is that it is lighter, more powerful, and produces less emissions than the previous version!
Biggest surprise: Different wet-sump engine block!

I'm not racer or engineer but doesn't switching to a wet-sump motor go against all common knowledge for a sports car and so many years of Porsche tradition?
That seems very, very odd.
