Your never going to believe this one
The King
I've owned many turbos over the years and when the Carrera S came out I decided that it was fast enough and it is, but to a point as the normally aspirated cars just don't have any ***** below 4500-5000 rpm (except with the aid of a super low first gear), something that is a characteristic of the 911 going way back as these cars were meant to be road racing cars, not drag machines; I am the first to admit I miss the intoxication of the turbo's many virtues and if I were smart I would have kept the last of my aircooled turbos.
One of my collegues drives an 04 TT with tip, yes the interior is not as nice as a 997's but it is nicely covered in leather. I've always loved the turbo's wide hips and special exhaust note coming from that very special and race derived engine, plus the turbo's low end torque coupled with the tip truly makes it an everyday city driving super car.
The turbo is a turbo is a turbo...The turbos are, and always will be the king of the 911's no matter the series...Long Live the King.

Using the search feature "turbo lag" generates a lot of posts . Now if it were non existent then it would be falsefiable .
That is not the case .
I still feel the 996tt will be faster .
I still would take the 997S over it.

I dont know, Ive messed around with a couple of turbos and they didnt seem to be as fast as most people claim.. but then again ive had no actual real races with one. So if anyone is interested to run me please let me know.
I use to to have C5 Z06 which many would agree that its a little faster then a 996 turbo and i ran a better 1/4 mile time with the 997s then my Z06, even the trap was higher.. Although the track i ran my Z06 at was not as good as the one i ran my 997s, the Z06 should have still pulled off a better time since the 997S is sooooooo much slowerr.

if you attempting to say 996TT vs. 997S... well then your basically comparing apples to apples, because they look almost extremely similar, its basically the same car, minus the headlights...even then not a drastic change - one cannot say the 996TT is "ugly" and the 997 is "hot"...

and as said the 996TT before launch should be pre-boosted - either revving with stick or brake-torquing with tip and either way the 997S will be left in the dust if this is done and will not catch up... end of case in the 997S vs. 996TT race discussion, its very pointless and very clearcut
And a 405 hp C5 Z06 should be faster than a 997S as it weighs about the same as a 997S and has 50 more hp and about 105 more lb ft of torque...I'd also imagine even the 385 hp version should be faster with an extra 30 hp and 100 lb feet of torque over the 997S.
i have tracked my 997s and have kept up with many a 996 tt
rear wheel drive is more fun to drive imho..
and if i remember correctly if driven well, rear wheel drive is faster than 4 wheel drive on dry track...
having said that, it would be fun to get the 996tt and if you don't like it, you can always trade back to 997s as there a lot of 997s with low mileage for the 60'sK

I was going to suggest the same thing...and at least you would still have some kind of warranty.
personally id go for the turbo. I prefer the interiors on the 996's. I just can't stand looking at the steering wheel on the 997's. Exterior wise the front bumper is more agressive and race-car like than the rounded off nose off the 997 carreras. Lastly, you would have a Porsche Turbo, that should just be enough to make the switch, imo. I love the performance and upgrades made to the 997 carrera's but i just don't think it compares to the any turbo and plus i was kinda disappointed with the fact that the 997 carrera 4s wasn't like the 996 C4s, which was basically a tt without the turbos and the additional body enhancements.
