I can see why it's fun to ask for opinions, but you need to drive the TT and see if you like it. The 997S is only 3 sec slower around the Nurburgring than the 996TT, so considering the TT power advantage that should tell you something about the relative handling. The look and feel is very different also.

For me it's a no-brainer but you need to decide for you. They are worth about the same money so no advantage either way there.

EDIT: It's actually 3 seconds, 7:56 for the TT and 7:59 for the 997S with PASM in Sport. Since someone brought it up earlier, Corvette Z06 is 7:49.

7:36 --- 162.63 km/h -- Porsche Carrera GT
7:45*-- 159.48 km/h -- Porsche 997 GT3 RS

to me 9 seconds is one hell of a margin if thats your deciding factor! Very hard to cut seconds at that level in the game.

Regardless of which is better the turbo is worth significantly more than your 2005 997. From that standpoint alone I'd do the trade, drive it for the summer, then get back into a newer 997S if you miss it. All this without a dime out of your pocket.

i would not do it either. yes.. the 996tt can be modded to a monsterous beast.. but it still has the ugly head lights and out dated interior compared to the 997S.

perhaps just do the trade and then sell the 996tt. then use the $$$ to buy another 997S with some mods

Do either of the two cars have an extended warranty??? Porsches in general are expensive to repair but turbos could even be more so.

This so funny! I just saw 3-996tt for sale at this motors shop today, if you look around there's a lot of 996tt, 997C2S for selling. I am always wondering why? Ahhh!!! Could it be turbo lag?
No! Because turbo is turbo, are you kidding me? Then I saw Michael avatar he is a power guy, I think he will get the 996tt? Who care what Michael pick, as long as he have fun with it. Hope you have a chance test drive the 996tt & make you own decision. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with either.

I think there is only one way out for Michael and it's up if he has the Turbo bug --not to swap into the 996tt BUT rather to buy a 997tt .

Yep been there (in his shoes with 997S) , Now am here . http://pictures.aol.com/galleries/yrralis1

If he swaps into the 996tt he will miss so many things about his 997s . The 997S really is an outstanding car and if he isn't ready to buy the Turbo then he ought to keep what he has .

I had a 996 C2 and a 997C4S, and I now have a 997 TT. I have to say that I would miss not only the interior improvements of the 997 but also the handling of it compared to the 996. Although the turbo will be faster (especially if modded), my opinion is that you will have more fun in the 997 C2S unless you plan to heavily mod the turbo. I must say that I know about the turbo bug -- I sold my 6-month-old 08 997C4S to buy the TT. I am very happy with my decision, but I don't think that I would have done it for the 996TT.
