Best gas

Which brand is best. Amoco, Citgo, Shell, Marathon, Mobil, Sunoco and others.
Which gas from your experience is more likely to gum up the engine?

Any high volume dealer gas is as good as any other here in the States. In most cases, it is from the same refinery anyway. You can watch the tanker truck fill up the tanks at a Shell station here and then follow it to Sam's Club to finish unloading the tank.

you are right my friend....unfortunately many consumers don't know this. So next time might as well go to WaWa or 7-Eleven

The Porsche rep was pretty impressed with the Techron additive and its ability to keep things clean and running smoothly and that's why he was advocating Chevron.

Chevron is the best.
Different addictive from different brands. Same refinery, but they added different things for different logos.

If you use Citgo you are giving money to Hugo Chavez. Anyone know the truth to this?

The gas all comes from the same refineries, but doesn't each brand put in (or not) their own additives, like Chevron does with Techron? I usually use Chevron if possible, because I noticed the cars seem to run a little better, and I get crappier mileage with Mobil (Exxon). I also seem to get crappier mileage with Costco gas

I was on a parking shuttle bus one day, and for some reason the subject of gas brands came up. The driver (pro that he was) said cars run better with Chevron, after which about 80% of the guys on the shuttle bus all voiced their agreement. About as unscientific a survey you can do, but it was completely random. I was surprised at the high level of agreement on the subject

When I cleaned my throttle body at 51K miles, it was pretty clean. Maybe it was lots of Techron in the gas?

There IS a difference between different gas. The top tier gasolines which include Chevron, Texaco,Shell and 76 have more detergent than the minimum requirement. Check http://www.toptiergas.com for more information. I personally favor Chevron. I used to use Mobil on my 1984 Mercedes all the time, and the engine idled roughly, and I failed my emissions test. The Smog ref told me to run Chevron 91 for 2 weeks and come back, lo and behold, I passed the test and the car ran better than ever, that's real talk.
